I traded in my boss metal zone immediately after trying this pedal in the store.(and it was well worth the trade)The pedal gives a greater range of distortion and when you think that you've hit its peak, just click on the top boost and you'll see why this is the master of all distortion pedals!!!

I was looking for thick distortion with smooth gain. This is not it. I thought every setting was weak. I am using a fender strat with Dimarzio Super Distortion in the bridge..cts pots etc. My Boss Drive Zone sounds much better than this. Maybe I just need to add a tube screamer for more gain..but this pedal sounded weak. I really wanted to like it. I paid for 2 day shipping to rock this thing out. As soon as I put a battery in it and hooked it up I almost wanted to unhook it. The gain wasn't smooth. Highs were too high and mids didn't help at all. This pedal is a one trick pony for metal I guess.

Dirty metal

By Monica Cappas

from Pensacola, FL

This pedal will give you some great tones! I found it to be a bit bassey and a little dirty, which for my needs is just fine. If you are looking for a tighter metal pedal this one is not it. Im playing through a peavy valve king half stack and 4 different gutars, all of which have SD Blackouts installed. Im happy with the pedal but it may not be for everyone.

Pure metal!

By Tristan Baeza

from Florida

So I bought this pedal as a christmas gift for myself. All I can say is "Wow" this pedal surprised me from the get go. The versatility is great, from hard rock, to metal, to even screamo. I toyed around with this pedal for a couple weeks and it was great. I ran it through a bass amp so I can really hear the power of this thing and it will surely blow you away. The quality of this pedal is really great. It's made out of metal and has good weight to it. So it won't be sliding around when using it. It comes with a top boost that increases the mids and treble of the sound. I don't recommend using the top boost because it muds up the sound a bit. It's a little pointless if you ask me. But everything else is great. 100% analog and the bypass works great. this is a must buy for anyone looking for a distortion pedal.

Two for the price of one!

By Michael B.

from Los Angeles, CA

Metal requires a certain attitude that can't be had in Boss DS-1. You need the right bass response, scooped mids and creamy highs. This pedal has a lot of capabilities but by far the best feature of this Metal monster is the Top Boost. It's as good as having two pedals in one enclosure.

nice crunch

By dave

This thing is sweet. takes a bit to get used to but turn your amp to the clean channel and take your trebble and mids down . and start tweaking the knobs i run the distortion at 12 o clock bass maxed top boost 2 o clock and man this thing is insane i run it through a b52 at212 and if i turn the sound up to half my whole block can hear it sounds great on my ibanez RG with EMG 85/81 pickups

Best All Around Pedal I Have - "5 Plus Stars"

By Kevin Buck

from Granbury

My son tried all of these type of pedals out at our local Guitar Center, while I listened in on them (took over an hour). We purchased the pedal that day for him and his metal playing. Based upon this I purchased one about a few months later and it is the best pedal I have in my pedal box as I can control what I want and kick it in with a stomp and keep my Princeton set normally. Get one of these pedal first and it may cancele out your needs for some other pedals you are looking at. For the price it beats the you know what out of a few of my Boss pedals, which I really don't need any more. Any offers?

Excellent Pedal

By Bobb

from Monroeville PA

This pedal definitely outshines cheaper boss pedals that GC had on display. It sound very good through a fender 59 deluxe style amp I built with my dad, but it is phenomenal when I add a little preamp distortion on mu dad's old peavey vt classic. Dont be afraid of the top boost, it adds a slayer and pantera style edge to the sound. Overall, the best high gain distortion pedal Ive ever used, and it is easily better than the modeling pedals i thought about getting before it (line 6 pod, sans amp, etc).

Many different tones can be generated through this pedal. Minimal feedback at high gain, Highly Recommended for rock/metal.
