The Dunlop Crybaby 535Q Multi-Wah pedal is the first item I've rated a perfect 5.0. I walked into Guitar Center, looking to buy a DigiTech Jimi Hendrix pedal but when I stumbled across this, I was truely blown away. I always loved the original Dunlop Crybaby, but now with custom changable options, I couldn't pass this up! I've used this thing on the road and it is a tank, I don't see this thing ever breaking. You have 2 boosters for the EQ, a Q knob for a bunch of different modes and a volume boost that really comes in handy. You can get pretty much all those other wah's into this ONE pedal. I bought it at first also because Adam Jones of Tool uses it and now I see why! Another great thing is it's bypass, if it's turned off, you get the same perfect signal and it just goes great. A truely great pedal, I highly recommend it!

I bought my 535Q when it first came out. It was one of the first variable wahs on the market. I like it for the most part. It takes a lot of experience with it to dial in your favorite wah tone(s). In my experience, I changed setting and twisted knobs until I found that ONE wah tone I like the best.

As with most wah pedals, it's hard to find something that retains the classic wah tone with overdrive and, especially, heavy overdrive. I found one setting for overdrive and another for cleans. If I were to buy a new wah pedal, I'd pay the extra money for the Fulltone Clyde. It has lusher tone and a buffer setting to retain great wah with overdrive.

You will only need one (maybe two) wah pedals in your life and its a staple in most players' pedal board. Spend whatever you can afford for the best wah you can get. Compare the 535Q with the Fulltone Clyde and see what sounds best to you.

Most versatile wah that I've played

By don't_go_on_me

from Minnesota

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

The 535q can give you every wah tone you've ever wanted. Between the adjustable Qdial and the 6 wah range dial, the combinations are endless. The pedals manual comes with some suggestions which is a helpful starting point for new owners of the 535q. It only took me a few sessions to find my "sweet spot"...just the fact that so many tones can be attained from this wah makes it worth the price (why would you buy a wah that doesn't have different ranges and tones?). The boost funcion comes up big when trying to cut through the mix during a solo. It can be boosted up to +16 dbs, more than enough. Awesome wah!

Lacking

By spittle8

from Detroit, MI

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

I got this wah, desiring classic clean wah tones, funk tones, and good heavy metal and saturated blues wah tones. It has, mostly, failed on all accounts. Not that this is a bad wah, it just lacks mojo, and good sweep. The knob doesn't offer too much interest, though it is necessary for the package to work. The tone itself is good, but the sweep is poor, and the thing seems lacking in punch and authority. You aren't going to get Voodoo Chile (Slight Return) on this thing, I have tried, and it doesn't seem capable. You will not get Kirk Hammett. However, it can do some nice metal leads, and some decent cleans, however underpowered. In closing, this is a decent wah, that does a number of things. It just hasn't demonstrated any great proficiency in any one area. I should have gotten the Zakk Wylde sig. wah. Cheers.

BEAUTIFUL

By Wtfizzgoinon

from Chula Vista, California

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

Let me first say that my amp sounds terrible, but when I plugged this wah pedal in the sound change was dramatic. This wah sounds amazing even on my small slightly blown out amp. I recommend to anyone who wants to find their own original sounds instead of settling for a signature wah that will only attempt to make you sound like that specific guitarist. This wah is extremely versatile, it goes from thick heavy wah sounds to high frequency screaming sounds. The volume boost is the coolest thing I have ever seen or heard, you just kick the switch on the side of the pedal and it adds even more emphasis on whatever your playing, whether your amp is set to clean or heavy distortion. Overall great wah, best wah, and a highly recommended wah. P.S. Im picky as hell and this choice of a wah pedal was not a spur of the moment decision, this turned out to the best.

THE BEST THERE IS!!!!!

By criss cross man

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

its amazing! thats all there is to it! it has a very durably frame than can take a good stomping, i sometimes find myself STANDING on it and it works great five seconds later! with the ability for you to change the sound of the wah and customize it to your liking, it can be played in any kind of music. from tom petty to metallica, this pedal has got you covered. if you especialy like the sounds of mike mccready, eddie van halen, jimi hendrix, or Dean DeLeo, mix it with a good distortion pedal, and when you play on those pedals, everyone will think the songs on the radio.

the real deal

By Mikeytheripper

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

Okay i've heard alot of people complain about the wah being to high in the Trebs or to low in the well Lows or not enough wah well this is the solution. I bought this a while back and traded it for a rare vintage guitar. HORRIBLE MISTAKE!!!! i miss the wah this baby would give. when i wanted my low strings to have more brightness and more sustaine and all that it would or have crazy solos like Kirk or hendrix. But it will let you get the tone YOU want you just need to give it some time and love. the boost button helps with solos but does give alot of static but thats what a noise gate is for.

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

This is a very versatile wah wah pedal. You can adjust the wah sound of the open and depressed pedal positions. It also has a killer (adjustable) volume boost feature. Worth the money, but the different wah sounds are kind of similar.

A more affordable version of the rack wah

By James

from Los Angeles, California

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

When i found myself needing a wah pedal dunlop was the only brand worth buying from. at first i bought the slash wah pedal and was disappointed with its sound and capabilities so i exchanged it for this. right away i noticed how amazing this pedal was and having the Q control gives you many options and the volume boost comes in handy when you want the solo to scream. the 6 way selector nob helps pick which type of wah you like and i could get anything from hendrix and clapton, to dimebag darrel zakk wylde and kirk hammett, this is the wah for the player who wants versatility, durability and amazing sound

Best pedal I've ever bought

By Matt

from Richmond, VA

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

I want to say first that if you're looking for a wah pedal, get this one. If you're looking at the original crybaby, get this one. I have now owned both and this one is exponentially better. It has better tone, scoops, everything. It's more versatile than any other wah I've seen. It works great clean, and sounds amazing with overdrive. The 6 different tone features are great. They do sound very similar, but there is a noticeable difference between each of them. The boost is helpful as well. For $130, this is a great pedal. It's easily the best purchase I've made to add to my pedal board. Just describing it doesn't really do it justice. You have to actually hear it in person and you'll know.

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

I love this wah right now than although it is not very cheap he has sound than any musical man wants. Bleat approximately with 3 wahs of this same price and I did not have much to think since this is one of them but amazing that I have seen . Besides he is a versatile pedal since the style that one have always does not have importance he goes for sounding like one he wants to I say it because you are able to I have touched from civil war to enter sandman and I always have become satisfied. If you want a good pedal I promise wah to you that this does not go for letting you down

Wah of many Wahs

By Eyon

from Boise, ID

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

Before Satriani's Big Bad Wah came to fruition, the 535Q was the last wah pedal that he toured with. I fell in love with that "Meaning of Love" live sound (Super Colossal tour) and this pedal nails it! The 535Q may offer a few too many features for those who like to keep it simple, but at the same time they are very easy to use and the wah sounds amazing using the factory settings. You can basically choose from 6 different "voices" using the range selector; from standard wah to an almost full-range bassy growl. The footswitchable volume boost can be set anywhere between 0-+16dB, and the famous "Q" control allows you to control which frequency range is covered by the sweep of the pedal. I think Satch had a winner with this wah, and my pedalboard will never be without one. This thing is built like an aircraft carrier, has an almost infinite range of sound, and is a wonderful pedal for those buying their first wah or a seasoned pro.

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

I've used the Dulop Cry Baby 535Q for about 2 years now, and while it was working, sounded great. It had a wide sweep range, which sounds well with my style of playing. But one day while practicing it was working fine, the next day it quit working at all.

WORST LIVE WAH EVER!

By VINCENT MARTIN

from AZ

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

Sure, as far as versatility goes this is a great wah. But good luck accessing those tones on the fly! There are serious design flaws with this pedal. 1) Loud obnoxious POPPING sound when the switch is engaged, Im glad I didnt blow a speaker. 2)The range selector makes a loud clicking sound whether the wah is on or off, do I have to turn my amp off to change the range quietly? 3)That stupid boost switch can get pushed in way too easily, leaving you fumbling around trying to figure out why you sound terrible!4)Those microscopic vol. and Q knobs that are unmarked btw. Who is going to adjust those in a hurry on a dark stage? Why didnt they put the Q knob where the range selector is so you can roll it with your foot? I may just be speaking out of disappointment because I wanted to love this pedal, but I think that for a pedal they "threw the kitchen sink" at they could have designed it with actual guitar players in mind instead of just mindlessly throwing features in it to trick their customers into thinking its awesome.Great concept poor execution. Look elsewhere!

The perfect wah?

By Anthony "Ace" Aros

from Tucson, AZ

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

As much as I love the original, I really love the 535Q models. what makes it special is the sweep selection knob. You can pick from 5 of the preset sweep ranges. When I usually think preset I think of constraint but the choices were perfect. I have 2 favorites but will use the others depending on the needs for a particular song. Some might say it's lacking the boost switch of other models but is that really a wah issue anyway? I'd rather use an EQ with boost pedal. Bottom line, this is great for it's sturdiness, relaibility, price for the features, and most of all the abilty to pick from the 5 great sweep choices. I love and recommend it.

Other Wahs Need Not Apply

By Celestial

from Albany

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

I purchased the Dunlop 535Q Multi-Wah about 6 months ago, and it has yet to stop impressing me. It was exactly what I was looking for. It lets you shape your sound in several ways to achieve the wah of your dreams. A frequency selector knob lets you focus where you want your wah to be based - more or less, you choose whether you want more wah in the treble, the bass, or in the middle. A "q" knob lets you voice the wah - from a bold, funky, almost harsh sound to a softer one, almost volume-like. There's also a knob for a volume boost that kicks in when you hit another switch on the side to launch into a solo. Needless to say, this is the wah to end all wahs. It has everything you need, nothing you don't. You have the classic Dunlop quality, but you make your own wah sound.

Nice Range

By Misconduct2K

from San Diego, CA

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

I was looking for a wah pedal with more to offer than the typical midrange sweep. This pedal was exactly what I was looking for. The 535Q has a nice range of sounds and is a very versatile wah pedal. The "Q dial" located on the side of the pedal lets you customize your wah shape. There are five different settings, from very narrow to very broad. There is also a variable boost control which allows you to modify the level of the signal, from 0dB to +26dB. The hard-wired on/off switch comes in handy as well. I have been able to get some cool sounds out of this pedal, anywhere from Hendrix to Clapton, and some nice modern sounds as well. I have found that running off the 9V battery results in less noise than when running with the AC Adapter. All in all, I would highly recommend this pedal.

For Tone And Control Freaks

By SpiritOfRadio21690

from Buffalo, New York

Comments about Dunlop Cry Baby 535Q Multi-Wah Pedal:

I've owned the 535Q for a year now, so I've had a chance to play around with it. This peadl has so much control over its tone, it's unbelievable. It can do Hendrix, Metallica, Zakk Wylde, Rush, you name it. The Boost button is easy to kick on and is extremely useful for cutting through the mix. My only complaint about this pedal, is that it may be built like a tank, the one of the rudder non-skid feet keeps coming off. All in all, no matter what your musical style, this wah will work for you.
