About Electronic Drum Sets:
First designed and built in the early 1970s, electronic drum sets began as a complex and cumbersome network of cable and roughly 500 transistors, according to Graeme Edge, then drummer of The Moody Blues, who worked in collaboration with Sussex University Professor Brian Groves to design the first-ever electronic kit. Since then, technology has pushed electronic drum technology further than anyone could imagine. At the turn of a dial, modern electronic drum kits can summon hundreds, if not thousands of all-time favorite acoustic and electronic drum sounds, cymbals and percussion.

While most electronic drum kits operate through a central brain that houses available sounds, how drummers interact with the kit often differs. Manufacturers have tapped a wide range of trigger surfaces and technologies to promote increased realism. In addition to classic rubber pads, popular since the early 1980s, drummers can now choose from technologies like mesh pads and gel pads, each of which offers a slightly different feel and provides certain elements of natural acoustic drum feel and rebound.
Cross-category companies such as Roland, Yamaha and Alesis benefit from their prowess in other technological fields like recording, sampling and synthesis, and pride themselves on providingthese cutting-edge technologies in their electronic drum packages. Most electronic drum brains offer USB or similar connectivity, allowing users to download, edit and even trigger sounds from their preferred DAW, or digital audio workstation software.
With all the choices in electronic drum technology available, Guitar Center is proud to offer kits to fit every skill level and budget.
