Value on many Levels
I think that any musician can benefit from using a looper. It's so nice to have instant playback of your music. From writing, soloing, harmonies, everything can be improved. Sometimes it's nice just to layer guitar tracks, then just sit back and listen to your creation. This review will be the Digitech Jamman vs. the Boss Loop Station. In my opinion the jamman is the way to go because it's easier to use, and has better features. Just compare them from the specs. If your a singer, or your instrument doesn't have electronics, you will really appreciate the microphone input on the jamman. The boss doesn't have one. This mic input on the Jamman works extremely well. You don't have to crank up the volume to get a good mic level. Plus for me, feedback is rare. I have two acoustic guitars without pickups, and they actually sound great being miced through the jamman. For singers, you'll enjoy creating harmonies with yourself and being able to try different melodies over the same progressions. I love creating a chord progression I like, then finding the best melody. It's so nice to not have to play the guitar, and focus in on the vocals. I know it's improved the quality of my song writing. As for people learning scales and modes, it works great as well. Throw down some chords, then solo away, or work on writing a detailed riff. If you want to get super crazy, I've miced al kinds of werid things for percussion proposes. It's actually quite easy to get all the elements of a full band in one of your loops. Hook it up to your computer, and now your burning cds for whoever. Ive used the Boss loop station many times, and find it more difficult to sync up the loops, harder to remove loops, and Ive heard the sound quality go down as you layer more tracks. This does not happen with the Digitech. Don't be fooled! Everyone thinks Boss is the best effects company, and in most areas the probably are! However I would NEVER go back to that crappy Boss Loop Station again. My suggestion is go out to a shop and try them side by side. In the end I think you'll like the Digitech looper better. However whatever brand you choose, I think buying a looper will open up so many doors for someone who wants to have more fun, and improve their musicianship.

Every Guitar Player needs this
Not being the youngest guy on the block and understanding all of this new computer recording and overdubing. I needed something that an old 54 year old rocker could understand and be user friendly. The first loop station I bought was the Boss RC-20 and it is a good one but only allowed a few miniutes of playing. Then, Digitech comes out with this JamMan loop station, and with a 2gb card you can get up to six hours of recording (WOW). I just bought a 1gb card and that gives me 3.5 hours which is plenty enough for me. What the JamMan has that the boss doesn't. The JamMan has a USB port to send your music right to your computer. The mike input is not just a quarter inch jack, but a real input. I can overdub 99 times with this loop station. I needed something that would allow me to play enven if it was by myself. I have a Yamaha S03 Synth which gives me my bass sounds, organ, piano, and hundres of other sounds. I will lay down a rhythm pattern, then use my digitech RP200 foot pedal for the drums, lay down the bass with the synth, and anything else that comes to my head. Start it playing and just kick out the jams. The good part about the USB cable, you can put it on the computer, then make a CD out of it. This is a great product and will improve the way you play. in order to get other sounds besides the guitar. Of course you would need to invest in a digitech foot pedal with drums and some kind of Synth. Nevertheless, if you just want to lay down a rhythm rif, then come behind it and play lead. No problem at all. Highly recommend this JamMan loop station.

Nice but lacks an important feature
Just bought the unit and started playing with it. Sound is great, love the built in features. But this unit, as well as the comparable Boss model lack an important feature. Say you'd like to use your guitar pickup to do a drum loop for starters, say 8 seconds. Your overdubbing is very, very short. 8 seconds again. It's not in a separate memory space where it loops for ya and you can overdub till the memory's gone. Your first loop controls how long the others are. I find this rather poor.

This machine rocks!
I have had the Jam Man for about 9 months and it is still my favorite piece of gear that I own (besides my Guitar). The greatest thing it has done for my playing is boost my creativity. Everytime I turn it on I come up with new ideas for songs. I really like the fact that it connects to my computer. Although I would not recommend using it to record a CD, I reallly like to use it as sort of like a notepad for songs and see what I can do with them on the Computer. Overall the construction is great, the features are great and I would recommend it to anyone that has ever had a slump in creativity or needed a guitar partner when no one is around.

Great pedal
This is a great pedal to own if you are a intermediate musician looking to improve. Since I purchased this looper, my guitar skills have increased tremendously. This product allows a great way to practice scales and modes to your own background tracks. I have gotten much better at soloing since I purchased this product. I feel that the features and expansion possibilitys of this pedal out-weight that of the similar Boss pedal.
