I purchased the DR Pro Tripod Mic Boom Stand about 3 months ago for the church where I am on the worship team. I needed a mic boom stand that was somewhat heavy duty but affordable and yet would take the abuse that things get around church. This mic stand does everything I need it to do, is not whimpy and has weathered all the abuse just fiine so far. The only minor drawback is that the pivot adjustment comes loose fairly easily, allowing the boom swing if not tightened.

By far the best...

By PeteM

from Bellevue, WA

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

I worked with a band recently that had a mixed bag of mic stands (both straight and booms). Of course, being the "scratch" player I got the most cheesy stand available which, to be honest, was just as cheesy as my own stand. After the gig I was helping load out when I spied the DR Pro Tripod Boom stand - what a difference. This is one heavy duty professional stand! All the components are extremely fine machined (no wobble at any connection) and the unit as a whole is about as sturdy as anyone could hope for. They even included two mic cable clips: 1 for the upright and 1 for the boom which was a very nice touch. Bottom Line: This is the best mic stand for non-studio work by far.

DR PRO boom mic stand superior to On-Stage boom mic stand

By John Young

from Collingswood, NJ

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

I play drums and am responsible for micing my own equipment. I use a bass drum mic, a snare mic and 2 overhead mics. I started out with an 'On-Stage' brand boom mic stand but, with the height and booms fully extended, the stand is very unstable and is prone to tipping over. In addition, the metric carraige bolt at the boom angle/length adjustment stripped and is NOT replaceable (just try and find a 9mm carraige bolt at Home Depot, Lowes or any hardware store...I couldn't even find one on the internet!!!). I checked out all of the boom stands at my local Guitar Center and found the DR PRO boom mic stand to have a heavier and wider base, taller height and longer boom length. I bought 2 of them and they both stand up very nicely, even at full height and with the boom arm fully extended. Unfortunately, this stand also employs a 9mm carraige bolt so if it strips (and it really should NOT) then I'm out of luck again but, based on the higher quality of the DR PRO stand, I don't expect that to happen any time soon. I would probably buy this stand again!

By far the best mic stand at a lower cost

By YounG J

from Detroit, MI

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

I was looking for a solid mic stand at a low price but all the ones i kept coming across weren't sturdy and didn't last long. Then i came across this stand that was a little higher than my budget for mic stands but it was well worth it. the stand is built with durability in mind and it's very sturdy so don't worry if u think ur mic might be too heavy for it cause it will hold the heaviest of mics. i love how high this thing adjusts because I'm pretty tall so i don't have to bend down when im recording. I'll definitely recommend this to anyone that's looking for a very sturdy mic stand without having to pay too much. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT buy one of those cheap stands because you'll be getting what u paid for. If ur on a budget like me then this is buy far the best mic stand u can get at a low price.

Heavy Duty - best stand I've ever used

By JOCELYN

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

If you want something that is sturdy, this is the stand for you! I've used MANY various stands over the years and this one is excellent, doesn't wobble, and the mic stays just where you want it. The best feature is the telescoping arm to easily be able to fine tune how far the mic is from your mouth without have to reach all the way back. There are two areas to adjust and tighten the boom whcih is really helpful when you have an instrument in your hands and can't reach too far, or when you're sitting on a stool and don't want to stand up. LOVE.THIS.STAND! After several years of 200 or so gigs a year my stand finally died. Just couldn't tighten the boom enough for it not to creep down - but I felt like I got my money's worth, so I just bought another one. The "broken" one is still useable, just can't put the boom out too far or it starts to sag.

Chrome better than Black Boom

By Steve Harter

from McKenzie Bridge, OR

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

I would recommend the Chrome Boom because it has substantially better fittings. Was a bit disappointed by the hardware that holds the boom in place whereas the Chrome Boom has a more positive locking system. THe base is ok.

Best stand on the market!

By Cosmo Jones

from Los Angeles, CA

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

We have tried just about every major brand at our studio. Ultimate Support, Hercules, On Stage, etc. This particular brand and model has been the best for reliability and consistency. We have rehearsal studios, recording studios and we do rentals as well, so these stands get used HARD. I'm very impressed that these stands can take the abuse AND they are still light weight enough that they are easy to carry around. We have lots of problems with telescoping stands not holding up and this particular one has been flawless. This is the stand for me!

Simply the best for the price

By John Ward

from Fairbury Illinois

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

I have been a working musician for more than 35 years, played in front of crowds 15 to 15,000, for the money this mic stand can't be beat. It is perfect for a guitarist/vocalist. The boom hangs over with room to spare to reach the perfect position for a very comfortable position in which to sing. Functionally the stand hits a home run from any aspect, sitting, Standing, and even my drummer prefers this stand as it is rock solid. You might pay a little more that other cheaper models, but eventually everyone in the band wants this one. I looks professional, and has the balance and stability that gives you confidence that you just won't have to worry about the mic stand.

A Cut Well Above the $30 Mic Stands

By Dan

from Long Beach, CA

Pros

  • Easy to Position
  • Stays Put
  • Sturdy

Cons

  • Not Having At Least 2

Best Uses

  • Condenser Mics
  • Heavier Mics
  • Studio

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

By far a better investment than buying 2 cheapo mic stands in the $30 to $40 range.

I have 4 cheap mic stands and now plan on getting rid of them and buy more of these. Perfect for the studio, this mic stands is well past sturdy enough to hold my heaviest condenser mic.

I have not tried it at a live gig yet, but I can only see vast improvements in that setting.

I am glad I read the reviews as there are so many that feel the way I now do about these stands!

Excellent product

By Brad

from Nashville TN

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

I had previously purchased an On Stage stand that looks a lot like this one. I needed it for my home studio to hold a LDC mic but didn't want to spend a fortune on a stand. On Stage was the cheapest thing I could find, and 3 months later it basically fell apart. I took it back to Guitar Center and the sales guy recommend the DR PRO. It was a little more than I wanted to spend but had I spent the extra $$ and got it the first time I would not have had to deal with the headache. This stand is solid. So far I have used it for tracking acoustic guitars as well as vocals with an AT 4040 and it works perfectly. I am actually going to get one more. There are a couple of different adjustments that allow you to configure the stand to suit a variety of heights. I'm 6' 1" and it works well for vocals. It also lowers down easily for when I sit to do acoustic guitars. The connections are all excellent quality and it has a good weight to it. The grip in the middle that tightens is made of metal not plastic so it will not crack. Highly recommended.

DR PRO TRi Pod Stand

By Gary

from Cuyahoga Falls, OH

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

I was leary at the price of this stand. Then I figured at what cost? Turns out that it pays to spend a bit more for better quality. I liked this stand from the get go. It positioned really well around the monitor wedge. The adjustability of this stand is a plus. For vocals--not a problem. I had no problem using it to mic my sax. The DR PRO folded up very nicely. It's heavy but sturdy. The only drawback were the little clips for the mic cord. They flew off during the first set. I'd much rather wind the cord around the stand anyway. In all, a good purchase.

worth the price

By Rocky

from St. Louis, MO

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

For the difference in price, this stand is worth it. If it has any drawback it's that you need to loosen it before making adjustments, cuz once you lock it in it stays there. I like mine so well I'm buying another one. I've used lots of different stands over the years, but this DR is the one I recommend. Yes, you can spend less, but how much less $20?... it's not enough. If you are a working musician, you can't afford not to have a stand that works as well as this one does. Solid as a rock.

Heavy weight, solid construction, very stable

By Duane Scaggs

from Raleigh NC

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

Bought 2 cheaper stands online and both broke out of box. Returned them at GC store and bought DR Pro 210 stands (Item # 101810125. These stands were twice the price and 10 times better. Folding legs but weighted base. Tubing is thicker and stand was much more stable. All but the two small boom knobs are metal. Overall solid and worth the extra money. Stare sales was outstanding in return and helping to select better stands.

Excellent Quality for the Price

By Jeff

from Austin, TX

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

I haven't used enough different brands of mic stands to compare these with others, but I can say I was very satisfied with their quality and functionality. They are heavy-ish for a tripod, but that's a good thing. All of the joints hold well while still allowing minor adjustments. These are the first stands I have owned where the boom telescopes, and that turned out to be a good feature; When I extend the boom in one direction, I don't have to loose as much weight off the back end, and that increased stability. I think they stands are well worth the price, and I plan to order more.

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

This is an excellent boom microphone stand. The wide and heavy base keeps the mic and boom arm from tipping over like some others we have tried. This is used for our keyboard player in our worship team at church. The quality and design is well worth the money we spent for this stand. Looks great, works great!

Comments about DR Pro Tripod Mic Stand with Telescoping Boom:

I was hesitant to spend this much on a tripod, even on sale - but you get what you pay for with this one.. You can buy a cheap tripod and replace it a couple of times, or you can buy one of these.
