These are some smooth-playing strings! These strings are excellent for jazz as well as any flowing lead that does not include heavy bending. There is no comparison as to the reduction of friction when playing with these strings as compared to playing with regular wound strings. If you get annoyed by the squeeking or slipping sounds with other strings then these are the strings for you! They play smoothly and without any residual sound from your fingers sliding across the strings while playing great lead lines. I would not use these strings if I were playing lead with a lot of heavy bending as they are a little stiff. If you haven't tried these strings at least once I would most definitely recommend them!
I bought these strings thinking they might stay in tune better and remove the annoying squeaking. It removed the squeaking but as far as staying in tune they are terrible. I put these on three weeks ago and they still go out of tune from minor bends. I'm personally going back to regular D'Addario's.
i've been a long time user of the D'addario Chromes strings, and absolutely love them. Being smooth, you can play for longer periods of times without tearing your fingers to shreds, which is a big point for me, because its never fun playing so much that you've wore through the callus. One thing I do have to note, is in my experience, when new, these strings really need to be stretched or they will go out of tune much faster. Thats really no big deal though, and all new strings should be stretched anyway. I've also noticed that they tend to last longer without breaking or just going dead than most other strings I've used in the past, another plus. These are good sounding, easy playing, long lasting strings and I highly recommend them.
