Great Amp Head

i just played this head today through a marshall 1960's lead cab and id have to say that this head is great! I actually was never a huge fan of Crate but after hearing this head i actually think that they put something out thats pretty good. I probobly will still buy the marshall cab though. And the price! Who can beat that price?! If you cant afford a top of the line marshall tube amp or whatever, get this. The only thing is that im not sure if it has a tuner mute on it. It has an onboard tuner which is a nice featuer, but im not sure if you can tune silently. Even so this head is great!

Doesn't Live Up to Crate's Name

I ordered this head after playing (and loving) some of Crate's other amps. While the features of this amp are quite nice, and it does have GREAT tone, the quality completely kills this head. The build quality is total junk. From the first time I plugged my guitar in, the built in effects caused total nightmares. The delay feature would NOT turn off. Everything I played had an echo even with all effects turned to zero on a clean channel. The echo made everything so muddy, you couldnt even hear what you were playing. From what I have found on other websites, MANY people experienced the same problem I did. I would avoid this amp at all costs. While the price is nice for the features and power you get, it is NOT worth your time or money. Spend it elsewhere on a quality built amp. I am extremely disappointed with Crate on this one.

Hi, Im 47 and have been playing many years. I have been playing through a Roland Jazz Chours 120H and two Crate 17" Cabinet Speakers & PRS Guitar & Multi Effect board. When I hooked up this Crate Amp it only took a minute to realize "IT WAS SWEET" you can not go wrong with this product for that price! Made me want to start practicing more. I have only had this a few days so as long as it continues to perform I will continue to be HAPPY!!!

It has some great tones, but you have to play around for a little while to find them, the high gain channel is okay, I get a better crunch with the over drive. It's plenty loud even more so if you use pedals through it. I do recommend, if you are need of a decent stack for small shows, or new to stacks.

  • Effects should not be on a amp! Thats what effect pedals are for!

After my flex wave spent 2 mounths in the shop to get the effects to shut off.It finaly became the amp Ive been looking for.Ive tried many amps looking for that heavy metal sound and not many sounded as good as flex wave for the price. I love my amp now and I just hope crate will correct this problem in the future. Thanks Tim

i've had this amp for about 2 years, and its been great, the clean has great tone, alone with both distortion channels, which is great for both heavy metal, and classic rock styles. but i have had the same problem as everyone else, the effects start to stay on, and it VERY annoying, but i found the cables included MIGHT have been the problem, because when i replaced the cable connecting the head to the cabinet, it immediately stopped, but just recently, the first channel of distortion just stopped working completely! the clean and heavier distortion work, but im afraid the same will happen to them, and/or more problems will pop up. without the said problems, this thing is great, but if i would have a second chance to purchase this, i'd deffinately look toward something else.

I recieved this amp head with the matching cabinet for christmas last year. In my opinion, it is the best sounding solid state amp head within its price rage, even compared to the line 6 spider IV 150W head and way better than the marshall mg head. a few months after playing it and jamming with buddies, the O.D. and lead channels would cut out and on. I took it back, got a replacement, and within one month the effects wouldnt save and the other effects wouldnt shut off, so i took it back again and got a differant head. I loved the sound of this amp head and the way it functioned a lot compared to other solid states. I would recommend anyone who is buying this amp head, to get some sort of insurance for it because something will eventually fail with it. If it wasnt for the channels cutting out and the effects not shutting off, i would still be using this head. I only gave it five stars because it sounded the best for its price rage and for the way it worked.
