Comments about Cordoba Solista SP Classical Guitar:

This review is about my experience with the Cordoba Solista Classical Guitar. The specs for this guitar can be found at Cordoba.com so I won't repeat them here. The Solista, I think, would be considered a intermediate level student guitar. I have been taking lessons for eight months and playing the Solista for about 10 weeks. I bought the Solista because I wanted a quality Spanish made guitar. I've had very good experience with Cordoba and I could buy it locally at the Guitar Center; both these took a lot of stress out of the decision. My Solista arrived a few days after placing the order. As I hoped, the workmanship was first rate; beautiful woods, excellent fit and finish. The action (pulsation) was about where I liked it. And, the intonation was near perfect. My only initial disappointment was that the guitar sounded dull. My instructor, who has taught classical guitar for 40 years, played the guitar and was impressed. When I asked him about what I perceived as a dull sound. He said they all start that way and loosen up as they are played. For 10 weeks I played the Solista exclusively. I practiced a minimum of three hours a day getting ready for a recital. After two weeks the guitar sounded better and, in fact, it seemed that the sound and responsiveness of the guitar improved everyday. Today the guitar has good bass and treble response and there is good balance between the two. The sustain is very good up to about fret 9 then falls off. The tone is improving as I improve. My only change to the Solista was to put on d'Addario Carbon strings.
