This is my 3rd Champion generator over a 6 year period. Like most, I started out with the 4,000 watt model since it was a great value and could power everything in my 21' trailer, downside is that it is heavy and loud compared to inverter generators. Since most of our camping in Arizona is at high elevations (7,500ft - 9,000ft), we seldom need to run our 13.5 BTU air conditioner so I recently purchased the Champion 2,000 watt generator (black model) in hopes of running the microwave as well as run the Progressive Dynamics converter to charge the house battery. Sadly, I was disappointed when it failed to do neither at 9,000 ft and struggled at 1,200ft. I was hesitant on purchasing the 3,100 watt model for fear it would not be able to perform at high elevations since output is reduced by 3% for every 1,000 feet in elevation.

After seeing the new 3,400 watt model (100233), the extra peak and running wattage over the 3,100 watt model in the same small package and only 1 decibel louder at 59 decibels with the same great features, I ordered the 3,400 from P.E.D. The generator shipped on Monday and was received on Thursday. Once I could verify the carb code, I ordered the high elevation carb jet at no charge from Champion. After filling with 10W30 oil, I followed the 5 hour break in period instructions, drain and filled with fresh oil. I first tried the generator at 1,200 ft with my 900/1400 watt microwave which it ran in economy mode. Next, with the microwave off, I took the generator off economy mode, started the fan first and switched the ac to cool and the generator started the ac with no issues, (Carrier Air V w/hard start kit).

The following weekend I was able to test the generator at 7,500 feet and the generator performed flawlessly without the high elevation jet installed, charged battery, ran ac and microwave (did not run ac with microwave on). Now that I am confident my new 3,400 generator can power my trailer, I have sold my 4,000 and 2,000 watt generators and couldn't be happier. At only 80lbs and 59 decibels, the Champion 3,400 watt generator packs a powerful punch in a small package.

The website states this will "start and run" a 15,000 btu AC. After doing the break-in, I hooked it to my RV. Nothing else was on during the test. It immediately overloaded. I found on the box it states it power up to a 12,000btu AC. So I bought this going by the specs on the website and now I have a generator that is insufficient. Can a Champion representative please explain this.

Great RV generator for the right price

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Inverter Generator:

I use this in place of the "boat anchor" $3000 Onan Microquiet POS that is equipped in my work truck. I was buying a new Onan every 1-2 years before getting fed up. These champion generators fire up on the first 1-2 pulls and run quiet and reliably. I am still on my first one of each model but have had no problems. If they did break I can replace them at a fraction of the cost of an ONAN etc... and get a better product for less money.

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Inverter Generator:

I bought this generator about a month ago to be used at the Nascar races in Louden. NH. It worked flawlessly and perfect on the first trial. It runs my a/c, fridge{which is electric only}, and heat with NO issues whats so ever. Compared to the price of the Honda EU3000 your throwing away your money which could buy 2 of these and put money back in your pocket. Can't believe how quiet it runs in the econo mode, awesome!!! The only negative remark is I wish they sold a extended gas tank for there generators. Its only a 1.7gal tank and when under load runs about 6hours. But will say it starts up first pull every time. THANKS!!!

Works Well but Quality Control not so much

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Inverter Generator:

The unit works fine but I had to repair it to get it working upon delivery. The power control board inside was never mounted properly and wiring was not connected. Fortunately being an Electrician, i was able to diagnose the problem and fix it and then it ran OK. The average homeowner would have had to return it or have it repaired with added cost and inconvenience.

What a Champion!

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Inverter Generator:

I put gas, oil, pulled the out the choke, a couple pulls and it started. I put it through the initiation period, and it performed as prescribed! I like the the size and the tuck away handle which definitely comes in handy. My only gripe is I would like to see an extension for the crankcase drain bolt. Something like a flexible extension hose which would allow the oil to drain outside the frame work. The way it's configured, once the bolt is removed, oil will drain inside the generator frame making for a messy clean up. Other than that, I'm a happy a Champion generator owner! My brother plans on getting one for his carpet cleaning business. So there will be two Champions in the family!

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Inverter Generator:

I went out on the road this weekend and really gave my generator a good work out. In my first review I did not give it a 5star rating for being quite. After running it this weekend I realized that if it was shrouded with lots of heavy metal it would be more quiet and more expensive. I listened to some on board generators and the only reason that they appear to be quieter is they have an extra long exhaust pipe for obvious reasons but I had no issues with the 59db that it put out and frankly it in my humble opinion is the best value on the market and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for an inverter generator.

Comments about Champion Power Equipment 3100/3400 Watt Portable Gas-Powered Inverter Generator:

I was needing to upgrade my generators. I was looking at the Honda 3000 series inverters I've seen the Champion generators around but not seen the inverters. I was very skeptical. I called champion power equip. and the gent that answered the phone was super nice and very pleasant to talk to. I just ask why should I buy this vs. brand X. I was sold after the first couple of minuets. the fact that the customer service is so outstanding and the dealer support that is given to the dealers around the country . he sealed the deal when he said that we are all users of the products we sale. I told him what I wanted and he gave me the model number and told me where to get it local. I ordered mine and picked it up at the store and took it home and filled it with fuel and oil. I set the choke and pulled it twice and it fired off. I hooked my trailer to it witch has a 13k BTU A/C unit I plugged it up and it runs it with no problem I ran it with the idle control on and it ran it just fine. I ran it for the firs five hours and changed the oil as per the manual. I will have it out on the road this weekend and so I'm excited to use it. Oh and it is Sooo Quiet. I will keep everyone posted as things progress.
THANKS

Out of the box, oiled up, gassed up and had it started on 2nd pull in less than 15 minutes. Being picky here but I wish it was a tad quieter but then again, 59db is pretty darn good! The price is right too! Definetily going to use a fuel stabilizer so the Ethanol doesn't ruin it. Hope to keep this one for a long time!

I purchased a 2000 watt Champion generator about 9 months ago, upgraded my RV and needed a larger generator so I purchased the 3400 watt model. I really like the features. These inverters models are easy to move around, light weight and compact. They run quietly for campsites.
