I have owned this model of Breedlove for around 6 months now. I had an Atlas far a couple years and I really liked it. My college student niece borrowed it over Christmas break and she loved it so much I had to give it to her. I have several guitars but realised pretty quick I wanted another Breedlove. Regarding the Focus SE, I wanted a better than average quality guitar and I also live in Bend,Oregon where Breedlove guitars are made. At first I was kind of worried. It was a nice guitar and played well but did not seem that different from a lower priced guitar. I took it to the local luthier here in Bend. He did a new guitar once over to it and that did improve action and got rid of a very slight buzz I had on 5th fret of low E string. I told him my concerns and he said just play it awhile, get used to it,break it in. Boy was he right. This guitar is an aural jewel. It plays and sounds so sweet. It is hard to put down and is my favorite guitar in my collection for sure. If you are looking for this level of a guitar you will not be diappointed with the Breedlove Focus S.E. P.S. I saved a few bucks and bought the "used" model. It has such a rock solid warenty I couldn't go wrong and I have never been able to find any indication of previous use.
Wow. A stunning guitar. If you are ever in the market for a higher-end acoustic guitar, you need to check this one out. The sound - stunning. It has a certain 12-string sound to it. Lots of overtones that last and last. Has a chime or piano-like sound to it. Very rich, deep and even from E-string to E-string. A very well-balanced tone. Not to tinny, not too bassy. I compared this to a Taylor 816 and Martin 000-18. The Taylor was too metallic for my taste (still a great guitar). The Martin sounded amazing. This Breedlove sounded as good as the Martin. Mind you, they both have slightly different sounds. The Martin was a little deeper and woods-ier. The Breedlove was more balanced in its tone. That was what won me over. Oh yeah, and it's made in Oregon - practically right around the corner from me. Again, can't say enough about the sound of this guitar. If you come across one in your travels, pick it up to hear what I am talking about. Also, it is a beautiful guitar. The quality of tone woods to the inlay work - stunning! It just has a different look to it that I prefer. Love that redwood top! About Breedlove: A week after my purchase, the guitar picked up a buzzing sound when you struck an open D-string. So I emailed the folks at Breedlove and they responded in a couple of hours. The rep passed my email along to their repair dept. They got back to me the next day with a number of suggestions of what to do about it. Since I wanted to learn a little more about my guitar, I took their suggestions and checked out a few things (instead of just taking it right away back to GC). Turns out that the brdige truss (unique to Breedloves) was a tad bit loose as well as a piece of the electronics. After about 5 minutes of mild adjustment, the buzzing was taken care of. Should a guitar with this pricetag have issues? Probably not. Did Breedlove respond in time and back up their product? You bet! Great customer service! About Guitar Center: Some people may knock GC because it is a big-box store. Local shops give better service. Well, let me tell you something. The folks at GC were awesome! Nicholas at Beaverton, OR GC? - The best. I mean this guy is a true geek about acoustic guitars. He knew every model, make, style, sound characteristics, etc. Extremely knowledgeable. I had him test drive the Martin, Breedlove and Taylor while I had my back turned. So I could give an independent ear. He was very helpful and patient. No high-pressure gimmicks. Just one guitar lover to another. He even polished up the guitar! And it isn't just this one guy. Everytime I have been in there, the staff has always been top-notch. They look upon their guitars as their children! The prices of a big-box store, with the service of a Ma & Pa shop.
Just picked this up. I can't believe how this thing plays, sounds and looks. I shopped VS Taylor, Gibson, Martin, and this blows them all away. I will stick with Breedlove from here out. The neck is like butter, the craftsmanship is spectacular. I can't say enough. Go play one at your earliest opportunity and you will buy it.... I also own a Stage series Breedlove that I have gigged 30 times in 5 months and my only concern was can this one really be worth 3x what I paid for that? Well, that concern took 7 seconds to overcome. Love at first sight, plugged her into the Bose system and OMG.....,everybody needs one of these.
