Bought one of these new..wasn't very crazy about it to be quite honest with you.Too crunchy for my taste, everyone has different styles, etc.I played it through my Carvin Legacy Amp,definitely too crunchy.Great for hardcore metal heads.I do alot of lead solos so I use a Tube screamer TS-808 over the lead channel on the amp.Very warm, natural and not too muddy. For my Distortion I simply use a BOSS DS-1.Dont get me wrong, its a great pedal, just not for my type of music.Hope this helps.

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

Has a very long sustain, heavy distorted sound which is great for chugging and heavy riffs, if you tune the settings just right it can be great for solo's but the distortion can be slightly hard to keep clean because it has alot of bass and distortion. Overall this is a great pedal if you play low tuned, metal type music. Boss is of course always a solid choice for pedals (after all they are the original Marshall sound!) They are solid, high quality, long lasting pedals worth every penny.

An Old Man but a Mean Ole Man

    By lassiverin

    from Fort Worth TX

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

I just want to point out I bought this exact model close to 20 years ago and it still works with no issues. It is a seriously heavy distortion pedal; not useful if you want a classic rock feel but anything metal or more you are guaranteed to find that right sound.

    Good ol rock/metal pedal

    By 1990

    from NW USA

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

Wanting a firm/hot pedal in the chain, I got this. Its love or hate pedal. Growing up with the Boss Digital Metalizer, this guy is the next step. You can tweak this any which way to get a good tone. If you are after hot/moderen progressive rock/metal tones, this is it. The dual gain stage circuit makes a huge difference in the body of the distortion. The tone controls are also essential in finding that sweet spot. It does the job. I tried the Hardwire metal pedal, but the MT-2 has it beat hands down.

    Good, but Situational.

    By Noah

    from Michigan

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

This pedal is a very good sounding distortion. Although, that's simply what it is: distortion. The one thing that one would need to know before buying is that the distortion in this pedal is HOT. Even on the lowest possible setting, the sound that this pedal produces is extremely overdriven. This is NOT a pedal to get if you want a sort of lightly-overdriven sound. This is a BIG MEAN DISTORTION MACHINE. Think death metal. The build quality of this pedal is also very nice. It's extremely solid-feeling. Will easily take a beating and keep working.

Not actually a good pedal, sorry!

    By Max Lawson

    from Littleton, CO

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

This pedal does produce distortion but the tone is horrible. Seriously. Don't buy it without trying out the competition. I give it two starts because the one I had was tough and lasted a long time.

Best distortion pedal in the market

    By JOSE SORIANO

    from East Hampton, Connecticut

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

Well what can I say. I bought this pedal about 15 years ago. To say the least the now 15+ year old pedal is still playing strong with absolutely zero issues. I love the versatility and range in tones that it provides. It has been my main practice pedal as well as stage pedal since I first bought it. It is must have for any hard rock/ Metal guitarist out there. Iam a big GNR player and also own the Marshall AFD 100 head and I must say that If you play around with this pedal you can achieve a tone extremely close to that of the AFD100. Buy the pedal it is well worth the low price (1/3rd of what I paid for it back in 1996/7) and will give you years of great distortion in your guitar playing.

    Pretty good

    By Bob Jones

    from Washington D.C.

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

I bought this pedal recently, and it is a well made pedal. It seems to be indestructible, which is nice in any pedal, and if you know how to set it, it is a great pedal. There were only three problems I found with it. The first was the fact that it will go through batteries in a matter of hours, which is easily solvable with a power source. The second was that it has a lot of treble pushing through it, which isn't bad, but it can be annoying if you don't know how to set it. The third problem is that when the batteries it is using get low, the activator light will not turn on, which is a minor problem, but it is still annoying. I don't know if it is worth the full $110 dollars, but if you can get it used or with a discount it is definitely worth it.

    It grew on me.

    By DURIN THORNTON

    from Houston, TX

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

This was actually the first pedal I ever bought. And while at first I didn?t like it and what it did to my sound. Because robbing tone is definitely something it?s capable of. I did however eventually find, for me, that perfect mixture of tone and subtle grind. It?s now one of my favorite pedals.

A great pedal for distortion-loving players!

    By Robert Turner

    from SIgnal Hill, C.A

Comments about Boss MT-2 Metal Zone Effects Pedal:

While this pedal especially excels in Metal tones, it is more versatile than it's title makes it out to be. While it keeps a nice crunch at most levels, the gain amount can range from a crunchy classic rock to even death metal. The best thing about this pedal is it's massive tonal control. The High/Low and Mid/Mid Freq control can craft your perfect tone, from sweeping your mids like Pantera or focusing more on Highs and Mid freq to achieve an Iron Maiden tone. This pedal also sounds killer when boosted with the Super Overdrive pedal, to achieve a more driven than distorted sound. Al in all, if you want a good heavy distortion, but not the brutal sound of the Metalcore pedal, Metal Zone is a good investment.
