I tried the small fenders, marshals, oranges... And to be honest, this sounds extremely good, and dare I say it, better sounding than many solid state amps that go for around $150-$200. It has a variety of effects, which is something really great since not many mini-amps offer this. From many mini-amps like this, you expect something with just a volume knob and a gain, you don't expect it to sound great but you expect something to sound fairly decent. When I can't crank my Hot Rod deluxe, I use this little guy... I give it 5 stars because it's something that really surpasses your expectations, remember that this is a 3w amp that you can carry with you and still it sounds loud and good.

Great New Travel Amp

By Brett

from Germantown, WI

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

I went into the Austin store planning on picking up the Marshall. The guitar sales guy recommended this one. He said he had one of his own and that it was a much better purchase. I took his advice and am very happy that I did. The tone is great. I pretty much travel most nights and it is perfect for the suitcase and hotel room. Great features like delay that you don't get on other mini amps. It can be loud or quite but always sounds great.

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this because I live in an apartment and I wanted to brush up on my skills, it's not the best for metal by any means but it does the job. i haven't hooked up a pedal to it yet but i plan on trying it out soon. If you need a practice amp that is portable I don't think the their is a better option available on the market.

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a great piece of gear for quick practice where you don't want or need the volume. The tone is awesome for the available volume. The delay effect works very well. Just keep in mind the application. This in no way duplicates a full size amp. It just gives low volume quality tone for a low price in a small size. The battery option makes it good for travel. I got about 8 hours worth of playing time out of my first set of batteries. If you will use this regularly, I highly recommend purchase of the power cord.

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

Excellent portable miniamp, it really sounds good, has a distortion button, but also in clean ch you just increase the gain and it starts to distort same as a tube amp, it also features the isf knob and delay effect. this mini amp is not loud but it has a very decent level. Great if you are travelling, it has it all for room practice. Run it either with batteries or purchase the ac power cable ($20)

      good amp but

      By barry

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

this amp sounds good. sounds like a real amp not like a transistor radio like allot of these micro amp. good clean and distortion sounds. really surprised at how good it sounds. sounds great with headphones also. my only problem is I bought one and had a problem with the delay. after plucking the strings the first delay/repeat was slightly distorted. this is even with a clean sound. clearly something was wrong in the delay circuit. maybe an overheated electronic piece on the circuit board. sent it back got another and it did the same thing but not as noticeable. still did it though. clearly these amps have a manufacturing problem with this delay circuit. one broke amp is one thing, but two doing the same thing is a bigger problem. contacted blackstar and got an acknowledgement email with promise of response. been 2 weeks never heard back from blackstar. the amp does work but it isn't supposed to do that. I would not recommend this amp because of this. I will not buy any blackstar product again. if they cant even do right over a $59 product then why would I buy a flagship expensive amp from them.

      Amazing clean sound

      By Mark

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this looking for a better sounding practice amp for small places. I recently bought another one made by the O company that wasn't pleasing to my ears. This little guy has one of the sweetest clean sounds that I have found. Crystal clear, with a bell-like quality that surprised me for any amp this size. By varying the tone control, I discovered many very useable sounds. I can't say as much for the distortion feature, which is why I gave it only 4 stars. The distorted sound was definitely transistorized, but I would not hesitate to mike up this little guy up and record clean guitar from it. Another reviewer noted some distortion in the delay circuit which I have not noticed. I thought the delay sounded pretty good to my ears. As with all of these, the maker didn't include a power supply so batteries may become an issue. At least they don't recommend against using rechargeables, like some makers. I use an LP carved top double cutaway with Burstbucker pros.

I'm totally impressed with the Blackstar Fly. I hooked up my old battery powered Digitech RP80 and it sounds awesome. And best of all, I'm completely off grid with this setup.

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

Item arrived quickly, in good order and is exactly as advertised. You Tube helped a bunch. Listened to all the mini's available and believe it or not it came down to this one and the Danelectro Honeytone. This one was about $60 and the Danelectro about $30, plus shipping. I opted for the Blackstar had the edge with the delay built in. For a little 3 watt amp, it sounds durn good. Put it your gig bag and take it anywhere you want. Ordering the companion speaker for it, t compliment this little powerhouse.

Comments about Blackstar Fly 3W Guitar Combo Amp:

This little device is a marvel.. It is rock solid and has a fabulous tone. I was puzzled by one of the reviews that compared it to, and instead recommended a 20-30W combo Blackstar. Which costs 10 TIMES as much!. Thats a totally unfair comparison. This little amp aims at a specific niche, and it hits the target dead center. The capability to run on batteries can be a bonus at times as well.
