Blackstar HT Club 40 Combo Amp

Description
The Clean Channel on the Blackstar Venue tube amp has 2 modes, 'boutique' and 'modern' and its own Tone control provides a wide range of clean tones. The Voice switch reconfigures both the preamplifier voicing and gain structure, and the power amplifier damping, to reproduce either ringing Class A Performance in the 'boutique' mode, or very clean and tight Class AB tones in the 'modern' setting.
The Overdrive Channel has its own EQ section and a Voice switch that allows the character of the channel to be changed, providing a wide variety of overdriven tones.
The channel is characterized by a tone that's high in gain, but lacks any of the detached top-end 'fizz' often found in similar designs. This is a result of unique preamplifier and power amplifier shaping techniques, which cleans up the overdrive beautifully as the guitar volume is reduced. Even at the most extreme settings, the overdrive channel remains natural sounding. The ISF (Infinite Shape Feature) control is unique to Blackstar Amplification and represents a major step forward in tone shaping flexibility. The Blackstar amplifier's ISF control shifts the response of the 3-control tone stack between a US-type response at one end, and at the other a UK-type response. The tube amp provides an infinite number of alternative tone choices in between the 2 extremes that would be otherwise unavailable.
The Blackstar HT Club 40 tube amp also features a completely natural sounding digital reverb, which is outstandingly musical on both clean and crunch tones. A Dark/Bright switch allows the overall reverb characteristics to be modified to suit different tastes and playing styles.

Big and Powerful
This amp is brilliant amp for any kind of genre. It has a beautiful clean sound and distortion sound with a voice switch for each channel which changes the tone of the amp from a classic style to a modern style, and out of all the amps that i've tried, this is probably the best amp for distortion and getting the sound you want. From left to right, on the front panel, you have the input, clean volume, clean voice and the clean tone. Then you have the overdrive indicator and overdrive selector. Then you have your three overdrive knobs, gain, voice and volume. Then the three normal knobs bass middle and treble. You also have a very unusual knob called the ISF, it changes the type of tone you want out of the amp. When it is fully counter clockwise, it sounds more aggressive (USA), and fully clockwise has a less aggressive sound (UK). After you ISF, you have your reverb control which controls the overall level of your reverb effect. Then at the back panel, you have a reverb Dark/Light button. In the out position the digital reverb is voiced to have a warm dark quality. When the Light position is selected the reverb has a brighter quality with more zing on the reverb tail. Overall, i think this is a very good amp and when you look at it, it really warms your heart, and if you are looking for a great sound that is stuck inside your head, this is the amp to get. This high gain amp is all you need for median sized gigs.

Great whan it works. Sucks when it doesn't
Bought one in August 2012. Returned in Sept. 2012 due to a loud hum. Went through GC who accepted even though it was a few days past their allowable in-store return policy. That was much appreciated. New one arrived a few days later and has been fine until a couple weeks ago when it started completely cutting out. Probably the cheap plastic lined input jack. It is now 3 to 4 months past the one-year warranty. The amps have both extremely well cared for and gently handled. The first one never left my home and the replacement went to our air-conditioned practice location and has been brought to two gigs. To me, this level of quality or lack thereof is ridiculous. Forget trying to contact them through the US Contact tab on their website as it redirects to Korg USA and their contact link is a dead link. No excuse for any of this. Now I will have to pay out of pocket at one of their US approved service locations. At least that link worked. Would rate Zero Stars if that were an option........

I use this in studio and on various gigs. The depth of sound, controls, and quality allows me to transition quickly from jazz blues to grungiest rock sound I think I need to freak my audience out a little.
I would buy Blackstar again.

So prior to this amp I'd only ever played on digital and solid state because it's all I could afford. Finally I got an all valve amp. I tested out other valve combos in its price range the dsl 40c from marshal and the peavey 6505. And this was the better one in my opinion. So the 6505 has much better distortion no one will argue this however horrible cleans. The dsl 40c and this amp are really similar the dsl has 4 12ax7(aka ECC83) tubes as opposed to the 2 in the blackstar so it's capable of more gain but the gain time sounded off to me. Could've been the particular one I played but I wasn't disappointed with my choice in the black star. The cleans are great. Has a single tone nob on the ht40 version but that doesn't hold it back. Both clean settings (boutique and modern) sound great. And the gain sounds great you can dial in a good crunch time and a good high gain tone. However I've found you get better high gain tomes by dialing back the gain on the amp a bit and pushing it with an overdrive pedal. The gain cam be a bit flubby or lacking and the OD tightens it right up and gives it that extra spark and really makes it nice. I will say if you can manage the ht 60 which I believe is 1000 that one is better. However if you're willing to spend a 1000 might as well just save a bit more and go for a 5150 head.
yes I would buy again.

The Blackstar HT Club 40 is by FAR the best amp in this class that I have ever used. I also own a Marshall DSL40c and, in my opinion, I feel the Blackstar sounds much better. The versatility of the different voicings makes it a very good amp for ANY genre you play. The OD channel is one of the smoothest sound on-board distortions I have heard from an amp in this class; as is the reverb. One thing that makes it a great amp for something in this class and power range, is it has a master volume control: you can saturate, set it for whatever breakup you please, and then adjust the master volume for how loud you want it--great for a bedroom amp, believe it or now. Now, the negative, is it's HEAVY; this is NOT an amp you are going to move from place-to-place and enjoy it. Also, there is no 3-band EQ for the clean channel (only a tone knob), which limits it's capabilities as-is, in this regard. I use a multi-effects pedal with an EQ, so it's not a big deal for my application. And, the amp sounds amazing on the clean channel with only the tone knob, anyway. If you want to blow away the competition--in this price, class, and power range, the Blackstar HT Club 40 IS the amp you want. Into a 4x12, there isn't too many venues you cannot play; into the stock speaker, it's good for anything from your bedroom, to a church setting, or even a small club.
