Impressive mic

By Craig Lenhard

from Lancaster, PA

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 61 Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I purchased this as a gift and did a comparison with my Shure 58. Tonal quality is similar but just shy of the deeper tones of the Shure 58. There were two primary reasons why I chose this mic. One, the price. After comparing dozens of mics and reading many reviews, the Pro 61 seemed like a solid mic to practice vocals. Second, the Hypercardioid nature of the coil would eliminate much of the sound bouncing off walls that I expected could be a problem in the environment where the singing would take place. The mic will be in a teenagers hands and will likely be dropped on occasion but the solid construction of this mic will ensure that it will perform for years to come. One supprise bonus was that the mic came with a chord so right there you save another $10. If you are in the market for a great entry level mic, this would serve you well. The mic does not come with an on-off switch which could be a consideration for some users.

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 61 Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

I was searching for a good mic to mic some guitar cabinets and after a few instrument mics with unsatisfactory results I began to look at some vocal mics. This mic caught my attention because of the Hypercardoid pattern and the relatively low cost so after debating between a few different mics I bought the Audio-Technica Pro 61. This thing performed way beyond my expectations and blew away the much more expensive instrument mic I had been using. The sweet spot was easy to locate and needed very little EQ if any. It makes the guitar sit well in the mix as it responds to every nuance. The bump in the frequency curve around 4k is perfect for leveling out the tone of my 4x12 cabinet. Excellent Microphone!

      Shure Who?

By You Don't Know Me From Adam

      from PA.

Comments about Audio-Technica PRO 61 Hypercardioid Dynamic Microphone:

As the name states, you don't know me from Adam. So why bother reading this? Because we musicians and hobbyists rely on each other for honest reviews about equipment we can not try before we buy. I try hard not to be biased about a brand name. Though I use to be all about AKG at one time. This mic, the AT2020, the AT2035, and the ATH-M50 phones have gotten my full attention in their respective bang for the buck price points.Features: It's a mic. You plug it in, hopefully it works. This one does. It has no on/off switch as is the case with most. Thus the average 2.5 rating. Not lacking anything and nothing extra either.Quality: I have had mine for about 2 years or so. It is a rugged mutt. Though I am usually very careful w/my equipment, like most, I have my clumsy moments. It has been dropped more than once. It has hit wood, carpet, concrete and rubber. It barely shows a single scratch. It sounds better to me than any Shure 58. Quite a bit better in my opinion. It seems much more dynamic. I can sing at lower volumes w/this mic than w/a Shure 58 and still achieve the same output volumes. It works very well live and it records pretty well too. Don't read too much into it though. It's not the second coming or anything. But it is (to me) noticeably better than a 58.Value: I can not think of a single other dynamic mic I've ever used in this price range that is a better bang for the buck. If you know of one please LMK so I can go try it out.Overall: I don't see how you could go wrong w/this mic, either as your main throat pot or as another tool in your vocal belt.
