Hofner

collapse expand iconDescription

The Hofner Ignition Series Short-Scale Club Bass is based on Hofner's famous 1906 Violin Bass. It provides a warm, woody tone reminiscent of an upright bass. With a 30" scale, hollowbody design and flatwound strings, this lightweight bass is extremely comfortable to play while evoking a classic rock vibe.

Flatwound Strings Provide an Upright Bass Sound

The short-scale Hofner Club Bass features flatwound strings that produce a mellow, thumpy tone similar to an upright bass. Roll off the treble on your amp for an especially vintage feel. The short 30" scale makes it easy to play walking basslines and achieve an authentic rockabilly slap tone.

Teacup Knobs and Hollowbody Construction for Retro Look and Feel

Teacup knobs give this Club Bass a definitively retro aesthetic while providing smooth control over volume and tone. The hollowbody design enhances resonance and sustain, allowing notes to sing. Weighing just 7 pounds, this lightweight, comfortable bass is ideal for long sessions in the studio or on stage.

A Legendary Bass at an Affordable Price

The Hofner Ignition Series Short-Scale Club Bass brings the iconic Violin Bass design and sound within reach of any player's budget. With high-quality components and construction, this German-made bass provides professional tone and playability at a price far below its vintage counterparts.

I got one of these a couple of years ago out of curiosity because of Paul McCartney. He gets a good sound out of his and even though it's a Chinese bass, it sounds the same as the original ones. The bridge is a pain. The Hofner strings suck. Labella Beatle bass set is great. Try one!

This replacement for the first one I ordered which came with a chip is perfect! It has a better finish, I love the color, it is lightweight, and has a great sound.

Green Burst finish looks great! Bad part is a Crack in the top of the Guitar that go's 3/4 the way up from the tail peace to the top of the neck pick up. I know that because I removed the pick guard to see how far that crack went. And the pick guard makes this instrument look cheap. Once set up, the Guitar feels good, and plays nice. Loose that pick guard though. I used past wax to fill the drilled holes where the pick guard was fastened.

  • Exceeded my expectations

I fell in love with the Hofner sound from many of my favorite artists and had to have one. I think the club bass is more comfortable and looks much better than the violin bass. I bought this ignition version since it would take me years to save up for a German one. The setup was perfect on this bass right out of the box! Very smooth and clean. I did a few things to mine that I think were necessary. I switched the original flat strings for a set of Labella's, sanded the bottom of the bridge for better resonance, and adjusted the intonation a bit. The biggest weakness on this bass is the pick guard. It feels pretty cheap and doesn't look great up close. I had to tighten up the mounting screws to keep it from buzzing when I play the higher strings. It still isn't perfect, and needs a third screw by the bridge pickup. I might just try putting a piece of foam under the pick guard right there. Otherwise, the bass looks and feels great and sounds great
