Maybe it's because mine was an older model, I don't know. I ended up getting it thrown in for free to shut me up over a customer complaint regarding a bass, but I've had this axe since 08 and no problems. The thing came with Grover Mini Rotomatics, stays in tune, and has the sweetest neck feel of any guitar I own. No fret problems what so ever. The pick ups are cheesy and dull, but it's a ball to sit and play. I don't think I'd ever consider gigging with it, but it has provided years of enjoyment and I'll get rid of it when it's pried from my cold dead fingers.

Don't let nostalgia, and re-living the glory years cloud your judgment. I was, (and to an extent) still am, a Nuno fan. I loved his work with Extreme, and even wanted to play like him when I was a kid, but this guitar is a sad, low budget version of his signature models. I was shopping for a starter electric guitar for my son, and tried this one out. I thought it would be good for a beginner because it is very light weight. So light that I hated it, but would work well for an 11 year olds first electric. It is also very scaled down. The body is very small. The Dimensions are about 2" smaller than a standard Strat. On the contrary, the neck seemed relatively fat, and heavy for such a small body guitar, and made the entire instrument top heavy. The head stock kept dipping down, and I had to work to keep the guitar in a comfortable playing position. The thin, unfinished body, was over powered by the humbuckers, making it sound harsh. There was a definite lack of warmth for my taste. If you are looking for a beginner guitar ( and that is all I would ever call this) for the money, you are better off with an Affinity Series, Squire Strat. Which is what I ended up purchasing.

    Terrific guitar for the price!

Comments about Washburn Nuno Bettencourt Signature Electric Guitar:

The Washburn Nuno Bettencourt Signature model N1 is an excellent guitar for the money. This electric is such a great value! Once you get it out of the box and get it in tune, it just needs a little bit of time spent with it,and I feel that you will bond with it in a really good way ! I tried one of these once in person at a Guitar Center a couple months back and I really got along with it nicely. Finally happened again after testing this particular unit for a while. It especially sounds great and professional with at least a medium quality tube amp. With this particular unit, the action was a little high, in my opinion, out of the box. But once again, after playing with it for a while, I got quickly used to it. It would be easy enough to set it up to your liking, especially if you like tweaking and modding guitars. Out of the box, this guitar sounds really good. It's got great sustain! Very warm sounding with overdrive or distortion. Just sounds like the real deal for only a couple hundred of bucks! I'm not sure if the unfinished matte finish has a little something to do with the terrific sounds from this guitar, as there are theories on that. The higher action out of the box might also contribute to the meaty sound from this axe. This guitar is also very articulate....you can clearly hear the pick dynamics, whether you are hitting or scraping or slightly strumming the strings. Just an all out terrific guitar for just beginner cash !

    Washburn N1 Natural Matte

    By elliot

Comments about Washburn Nuno Bettencourt Signature Electric Guitar:

Before the holidays I went to GC just to see what is available and relive my youth. This Natural Matte Washburn N1 caught my eye but was pricey. I purchased brands I was familiar with. After dealing with GC, reading reviews and seeing this beauty on sale, I figured if it was less than it looked I could return it. I have a GC a few miles from home. This guitar is like a pretty mistress, beautiful but less substantial. The toggle is loose and probably will need replacement but that is it. I can play it and love the looks of it. It adds a lot to my collection. Quality from China is much improved. For those of you who like to delve into repairing and replacement it seems to be a perfect choice.

Comments about Washburn Nuno Bettencourt Signature Electric Guitar:

I bough this guitar for very cheap on clearance and I believe it was a good deal. The neck is a fat C with a thick rosewood board. The board is pretty flat and feels great with the big frets. I had to level the frets from the get go. They were a little uneven but once fixed, it played great. I know how to level frets, so the unevenness didn't bother me. I like the one volume knob, very simple. The humbuckers are decent, they suit many different styles, I have not bothered to change them out. The guitar stays in tune even with big bends. Overall very solid construction, I expected a lot less, but got a lot more.

    Nice for the price

    By Fred

Comments about Washburn Nuno Bettencourt Signature Electric Guitar:

When I was a teenager, one of the guitars on my wish list was a Washburn N4. When I walked into GC recently and saw this guitar on holiday sale for less than a hundred bucks, I couldn't resist taking it home. It's not an N4, of course. It's obviously a budget guitar, but it has a much better fit and finish than most Chinese-made guitars that I've played. The guitar feels good right out of the box, and the stock pickups have a decent growl to them. The one complaint I have is that the trem is pretty stiff, and you really have to bear down on it to get any result. I may try removing one of the springs at some point to get a little more play in it. The action on the one that I got was also a little high on the upper end of the neck, but with a bit of setup, this guitar should be a nice player. I give it four stars relative to what I expected. You know at this price point you're not getting a world class guitar, but it would be a solid guitar at a good price for a beginner, and it was well worth the money for me to relive my youth a little bit.

    Great guitar for the price.

Comments about Washburn Nuno Bettencourt Signature Electric Guitar:

Being a Chinese made guitar would turn a lot of people off of a guitar, but Chinese guitars are getting better in quality than they ever have been. That being said, this is no exception. I went into my local GC and they had 3 of these models in stock. One needed a good fret leveling, one's neck was a bit thicker than the others, and the third one needed a tiny bit of fret work. They all played amazingly but seeing as I didn't want to spend money on a fret leveling, I bought the third as it needed the least amount of work. As I normally do when I get a guitar home, I set it up with fresh strings and a basic setup to the best of my abilities. Once the guitar was setup to my liking, it played like a dream. The more I play the guitar the more I like it. It feels sturdy and the tuners are accurate. The bridge stays in tune (as will any bridge as long as it is setup properly). The neck is pretty thick, in between a Gibson and Schecter I'd say. I think it's a D shaped neck but I can't tell, maybe a C shape. The finish is great, I got the matte black one. And the pickups are amazing, especially for stock ones. They are really hot and surprisingly clear. The neck is really fat sounding on a clean setting. I don't give the guitar a 5/5 only because the frets need some work. I would never play a show without a backup but I would use this one as my main guitar, and I would very highly recommend this to anyone who loves Nuno, or who plays Hard Rock/Metal genres. But I'm sure this guitar sounds great for other genres, those are the main two I play.
