Wampler Sovereign Effects Pedal

Wampler Sovereign Effects Pedal

Wampler

Description

To a discerning and devoted league of tone chasers, Brian Wampler is The King when it comes to organic, convincing and inspiring dirt tones. Thus, Wampler thought it only fitting to name Brian' latest pedal”a simple distortion pedal”The Sovereign.

A little presumptuous, you might say? Wampler thinks this is a pedal that lives up to its name. From cream to ream, thrash to powder puff, hellacious burn to heavenly soothe, The Sovereign will do it for you. Truly.

You see, Brian was asked by a very convincing and influential client (whom we shall name later) to make a "simple distortion pedal." Think for a moment about the amazing distortion pedals Brian has already given us: The Plexi series, the SLOstortion, the ubiquitous Pinnacle and others. How could he top those?

For starters, The Sovereign does not pretend to be another (with all due respect) "A.I.A.B" (amp-in-a-box, for the uninitiated). This beast has its own thing going on. It has a mid control that is admittedly borrowed from other great Wampler pedals like The Pinnacle, but this one is refined, less fussy and instantly gratifying over the full range of its sweep. Seriously rich mids are to be found here, able to cut through the din of the bass and drums in an instant. Smooth, creamy highs”think stainless steel wings on your soaring solos”are a mere flick of a toggle away. The bottom end is tight but with just the right amount of sag to simulate a good tube amp going into orgasmic throes of heat.

This thing is smooth transparent and killer. Plenty of gain on tap. Never gets fizzy even at the highest settings. It sounds like your amp and your guitar with a clean transparent distortion. Of course no pedal is completely transparent, sans a volume boost. I can hear the mids and upper mids pushed a bit, but with plenty of tight bottom end also. The mid contour is very useful. I personally like mid range in my metal tone, but you can scoop it out of desired. It is noisy when engaged and my volume is up on the guitar. But that's a small price to pay. Turn down your volume control! Very responsive and sensitive to touch and volume changes. It's a great pedal. I A/B'ed with a few other popular drive pedals. This one won hands down. I highly recommend.

Great pedal that delivers some tremendous sound. Really outperforms my old distortion pedal.

Had this pedal for almost a year. Tone grows and grows on you. Can safely say this is the best distortion pedal I've ever used. Extremely touch sensitive. But I have to say I had originally gave it 4 stars. After a year I am not giving it 5. Why? Wampler service and support is outstanding. Pedal developed a problem after 10 months on my board. Contacted Wampler and without any explanation other than telling them whats wrong with it, they said send it in. They fixed it and sent it back to me NO QUESTIONS ASKED...AFTER 10 MONTHS ON MY BOARD. Outstanding. I am a Wampler fan for life. Great service and great tone....what more could you ask for.

  • Best Distortion I've Tried So Far

To me, its worth every penny. It was a little tricky for me to get used to the tone and mid behavior cause they interact a little sometimes. But, I sold a couple of pedals after getting this. I tried it out and did shootouts and comparisons with this and a lot of overdrive/distortion pedals. It beat them all by a mile. It costs a lot, but it sounds and acts like an amp and not like a pedal. Your original guitar tone really comes through. With the right guitar/pickup, it does all genres of rock and metal. Even with the gain maxed, it is quiet and it cleans up better than any other pedal I've tried. It plays well with all of my other pedals. The bass stays tight. You can get Low/High gain Marshall-like and Low/High Gain Mesa-like tones out of it. You can boost it with another pedal and it'll sounds great. Its the best that I've tried.

Really like this pedal. I was a little surprised how much I had to crank the gain in order to get the level of distortion that I was looking for. The pedal is surprisingly closer to an overdrive box than I had anticipated. However after getting the gain dialed in its been great. Jammed once with it in a small venue and it performed great. Not giving 5 stars as nothing is perfect but this is a nice distortion box that fits more in the genre of fusion/rock. Not for metal players.
