Description
Tone Woods
A guitar's top is the primary filter and distributor of vibrating string energy through the guitar, which means it has a huge impact on its sound. Sitka Spruce is the most prevalent guitar top wood of the modern era. It blends stiffness and elasticity in just the right proportions which translates into broad dynamic range with crisp articulation. Layered back and sides create a sturdy yet receptive platform for the vibrating string energy sent by the guitar's top. Layered wood is less susceptible to changes in temperature and humidity, making it an excellent choice for players who travel with their instruments or simply require more durability.
What sets Taylor Guitars apart? Unmatched build quality, the most stable and playable necks, a vast array of tonal options, eco-conscious and ethically-sourced raw materials, and a lifetime of service and support.

I Can't Really Believe It Either!
I am a self-proclaimed guitar addict. I love them like women love purses and shoes. So I own a ridiculous number of them, and I have never written a review for one in my 47 years. Until now. I bought a PRS Angelus in January, and really thought I'd never be more excited about a new acoustic guitar. And then I happened to pick up a Taylor (BBT)... I have a 614-CE, the PRS, a Takamine, a Yamaha, and a few others, and this BB Taylor is without a doubt the most incredible sounding guitar I own, and it's not even really close. This will sound snobbish, (and I say it to hopefully lend credibility to my review), but I never considered even picking one of these up before, because I've never played a guitar in this price range that I could envision myself playing after the newness wore off. I haven't taken any of the others out of their cases in a week. And I don't really see myself finding a reason to do so anytime soon. This is simply the most player friendly, sonically pleasing, resonating guitar I've ever had. I know, I can't believe it either, but the fact remains that the ears don't know brands, or price ranges. They just know which sounds stand out to them, and in a blind comparison, I'd wager on my Taylor BBT winning 8 of 10 times. Do yourself a favor, and play one. You'll hear what every reviewer on this site has heard, and you'll be as shocked as we all were.

I've had this guitar for about 7 years now, and the neck joint started to separate at about 3. I've had it reset once, and my luthier told me it's not worth repairing again. It's really a terrible neck joint, which is a shame, because it could be a great value, and it sounded good till it started to fall apart. I love my other Taylor, but I expect more from Taylor than a couple of wood screws for a neck joint. In this price range go with Yamaha.

Love this guitar for so many reasons!

I recently purchased the Big Baby Taylor from Guitar Center and I couldn't be happier with it! I was looking for an instrument that would give me the type of tone I wanted while being comfortable for my right shoulder. My regular size dreadnought was causing a lot of discomfort in my shoulder after even moderate periods of playing and the slightly smaller size of the Big Baby has really made a difference! From a musical standpoint, the BBT has great tonal presence consisting of both clarity and warmth. This is the perfect combination especially since I play fingerstyle without fingernails or fingerpicks. I played many guitars trying to find a guitar that would deliver this combination and the BBT was the first one that delivered those tonal characteristics while also having a neck that is extremely comfortable to play on! Lastly, the price was incredible! I thought I would have to save for years to be able to afford an instrument that even came close to this level of quality (let alone a Taylor) and the Big Baby was extremely reasonable for such a high quality instrument. Additionally it came with a quality Taylor gig bag for the price!

Disclaimer: I'm a hobbyist/enthusiast, not a musician. I love the tone, projection, clarity, sustain and size of this guitar. I'm not a small guy by any means but it's so comfortable to play. I also like that the woods used are not reclaimed scraps from the shop floor that are glued together to make a neck, etc. like Martin's X-series (I can't get past that in a cheap Martin no matter how good it might sound). I'm very pleased with this instrument & recommend it highly.
A Quality Acoustic at a Great Value

I have had this guitar for 9 years, and I love it as much now as I did when I first picked it up. The sound is rich and clear. For being on the thinner side, I feel like it provides plenty of depth in sound for what I need it for. This guitar has taken a lickin' over the years and just keeps right on. The build quality is fantastic. If you're looking for an around the house, jam guitar then this is for you!
Great guitar. Not great saddle and nut work.

Buy this guitar if you love the sound and if the neck and body feel good to you, but have it setup by a professional luthier. The factory setup is not as good as guitars costing less than half the price. It really does sound great for an inexpensive little guitar. However, the intonation was flat around the D string as a result of the way the saddle was cut. Also the frets should be more evenly leveled from end to end. Please check your specs, Taylor. And Guitar Center employee... please don't tell me the intonation is fine when I can tell with my ears that it's not. All of the Guitar Center stores around the Twin Cities are disorganized, along with the iOS App which is not great either. The employees are too pushy to get you to buy something. It's supposed to be a relaxing, and fun place for aspiring guitarists to spend a little time making serious decisions. Go tell the guy who keeps practicing his death metal riffs at loud volumes that his time is up, or to turn it down a bit, but don't bother the new customer who just came in and is quietly interested in the acoustic guitars. Just my two cents. Bottom line is I love my new guitar, but I had to run around town to find the one I wanted at various locations, and it wasn't setup very well to begin with. I think the screw on neck is a good idea, but perhaps as another reviewer found out, it could be improved a little, and that would make all the difference for some people. For me the neck joint is good enough, just needs better setup.

I just went and bought my second one of these yesterday at the North Attleboro, Mass. store . I had bought one over a year ago but in a stupid move, sold it so I could get a Fender CD-140SCE because I had upgraded to using all Fender gear in my Acoustic act. Well I recently made the decision to retire from performing live because of medical reasons and I just wanted one guitar I could use at home, so I bought all of my gear to GC yesterday and did a trade/cash deal for this one. I can see why Taylor upped the price on these because these 2918 models just look great with the Brown grain headstock and the Gold colored lettering . I'm 60 years old and this guitar is just perfect for me . It's extremely light but has tone and more in spades. To me it sounds just as good as the more expensive models that Taylor has out , so I don't see the need to shell out a grand when you have this sweet guitar right here . This time, I'm not getting rid of it and I've already ordered a Silver Creek Vintage style Dreadnought case to go with it, which IMO is much better than spending over 200 bucks for a Taylor one.
One great affordable guitar

I bought this guitar years ago because of the feel and the sound. It is almost the same size as a dreadnought so it doesn't look like a kid's guitar, and it definitely doesn't sound like a toy. The lightness of the guitar belies the sound that jumps from it. I don't know how they did it with laminates but this guitar sounds great. The padded case is a bonus too. I have found that most of the Taylor stuff is overpriced, but this guitar is a bargain. It has to be set up of course, but after that it is pure musical nirvana. They used to make a acoustic-electric version of the Big Baby, but mine is not. Still, keep it humidified!
