Just bought this and the recording quality is very good for the price. If you're only going to use this sitting in front of a table, you'll be okay. You cannot use it holding it in your hand, because it picks up EVERY movement. There is no mic stand adapter available for it. Major oversight.
I just got my Tascam 08 recorder, and the first thing that I noticed was that the microphones seem too delicate, I can see that they can easily break it you accidentally drop it, and I definitely wouldn't try to carry it in my pocket, or put it in a bag where other things might break the microphones. I looked all over the net and in different mobile device stores and I couldn't find any protective case that would make it fit nicely, so that mekes it not so effective as compact and portable. Also the text on the screen is so tiny that makes it very difficult to read the menus, my eyes are not so bad and I had to really focus my eyes to be able to read the menus, and so far three of my friends that wanted to check it out complained of not being able to read the text cuz it is too tiny.
Sound quality is really good, but it catches a lot of the handling noise so it is best not to hold it when you are recording. It is not possible to use a tripod with it. battery life is really low, but I love the fact that you can power it with a usb power adapter. In general I like it, but I will most likely return it and get a DR-40, I think it's worth to pay the extra money.
We are a rock band that uses this recorder for rehearsal. The filters are very effective at controlling clipping. ANd contrary to former reviews AC power can be used with a USB wall adapter.
Best little recorder I've owned.
