Worth the Money
As I looked at various basses in this price range (Ibanez, Peavey, Epiphone, etc) bought the Squier (in Satin Pewter Mettalic). I liked the color, especially the matching head stock. The satin finish looks nice, and it contrasts with the chrome hardware and black pickguard. The finish was smooth and even, and so far has resisted scratches/ dings well.
Performance wise, the finish on the neck is smooth and fast, and moving around the fretboard feels natural for my large hands. The stock strings were to tinny/ twangy for my liking, and I replaced them with the light gauge Fender stainless flatwounds, and it sounds much more to my liking. (they still have good depth and punch while having more of a smooth sound). The pickups sound very respectable, and the tone is clear and full. The single coil pickups do have the customary buzz, but with my pedal and amp settings, it's not a factor (our sound guy was actually very surprised with the sound of this bass).
Quality wise, I did notice a few things that could be better. This is an Indonesian built line, and it's also mass- produced, so there are going to be some things that are not top notch. For example, the pick guard lines did not match up with the body lines perfectly, the knob/ jack plate was not completely straight, the pick guard dings easy, there were a few dings at the neck joint from assembly, and the bridge looks fairly thin. But, this isn't a $X000 Fender, so I can live with that.
All in all, it's a good value when you're on a budget. Yeah, there are better models, but for a weekend warrior like me with other priorities, I got a good sounding, easy playing axe. Keep it up, Squier!

all i can say is wow
I always played Fender jazz basses. I wanted to go with an Epiphone, something not too expensive, and i saw what Squier had to offer in their bass productions. Having known someone who likes playing Squier basses I decided to try it out and it blew me away. Not only does it look good, but for a low brand, non-expensive bass, it is very very well worth the $$$.

Amazing Bass!!
When this bass first came out I wanted to see how it stood up to Fenders "Known" Jazz Bass. I was at Guitar Center, picked it up, pluged it in, and it sounded Exactly like the Fender! I then picked up the Fender, played it, and I thought the Squire sounded BETTER then the Fender. Everyone who plays it, is also amazed on how well it sounds and plays!!!

Awesome Bass!
I bought the antique-burst (not one of the currently available colors here, unfortunately) Squier Standard Jazz Bass at my local Guitar Center a couple of months ago. It is an awesome bass. It stays in tune, sounds good, and looks good. It has inspired many grooves for many songs.
If you are a guitar player (or non-bass player) who needs a relatively inexpensive recording bass, this could be the one for you!

GREAT BASS
ABSOLUTLY the best bass for its price in the market.
I do not own this bass but the bassist in my band has it and he turned a epiphone thunderbird down for this. It has a great punchy sound to it and the tuners are great.
