As reviewed by Charles Williams on 10/10/2013

I am a DJ who use headphones all the time. I must admit the sound quality is good and it is comfortable but I did not get the extended warranty. After 90 days, the left side split. 30 days later the right side split. It is designed to be flexible for DJ's. [failed] Although they are broken, I used crazy glue and tape and still use these headphones but they don't feel comfortable. They continue to work because they have two separate wire for the left and right headphone. They must known it will eventually break. I need a flexible, comfortable, lightweight DJ headphone without compromising sound quality. This headphone did not make the cut.

  • Great soun Poor build quality.

As reviewed by MICHAEL SYLVIAN on 4/25/2012

I bought these as a replacement for my Sony headphones. These were recommended by a GC sales associate. So, here?s the good and bad: Good: - These have excellent sound quality. Once they were broken in, they were easily on par with the Sony cans that they replaced. - They can fill all sizes of heads. I have a large melon, and these fit just fine. - They can collapse very small, making them very easy to fit in a bag of gear. Bad: - The build quality of the SRH550DJ headphones is very questionable. They are constructed primarily of plastic. I have only had these for two months and now they creak and are loose. On top of that, the cable attached is not much thicker than that of a standard set of headphones. The image on the box makes it look like a thick cable, but it is a flat side-by-side cable. For $100, the build alone should call these into question. For the same price there are Pioneer and Stanton headphones available with better build quality. If you are planning on putting a lot of physical stress on these I would not recommend them, at all. However, the sound quality is very good. I will keep these as a backup and for use in my home studio, but their construction will keep these out of my live gear.

  • Only for home use!

As reviewed by SAI CHIMATA on 1/2/2014

I got these b/c I needed a pair of headphones fast after my sennheisers broke at an out of town gig. These headphones are not built for DJs at all even though they're marketed to them. There are two cords instead of the industry-standard one, the housing is made of incredibly cheap plastic that you can hear straining and flexing as you put them on or turn your head, the pads offer little isolation or comfort. That being said the sound is excellent, the stereo image is incredibly wide and clear, the bass is tight and tame and the response curve is relatively flat, but if it's gonna be marketed as a DJ headphone, it's gonna be reviewed like one.
