Super Clear Tone
I bought this mic a couple of months ago from GC and I was a bit hesitant because of the price...and the SM58 was much cheaper and sounds pretty good.
But I'm very very pleased that I went with this mic instead The clarity that comes through is amazing. Everywhere I've used this mic so far..people come up to me with rave reviews about how pure and clean the sound was on the mic. It's also excellent for recording purposes..especially live!

Best vocal mic in its price range
The Shure Beta 87 is a standard for live vocals.
The headroom and sound on this mic is what you need to cut through the mix.
Compared to a Shure SM58, there is a huge difference in response. You can sing easier because you don't have to work as hard.
This vocal mic comes as close to a Nuemann KMS105 as you can get without spending more than twice as much. I've used this mic for years and it is by far the best bang for the buck when it comes to live vocals.

Beta 87A
I was a little scared to buy a condener mic for live use for fear of major feedback. When i first pluged it in i was amazed! Sounded Great!! then at a show just as amazing and didn't feed back at all. I am so happy with my purchase!!

Carlyle
I bought the Beta 87C. It's identical to the 87A model but it has a slightly different polar patter to cut down on feedback potential from monitors in a live situation.
I love it! It's the best mic I have ever owned and I have tried many high end mics from EV, Shure etc. The tonal quality and gains etc are unsurpassed! It's not just a great deal for the price range, it's one of the warmest, smoothest and natural sounding vocal microphones you can buy for an all-purpose application. I use it for speeches at city functions, high-end studio recording, and of course live performances.
You will not be dissapinted in the Shure Beta 87 microphones!

Great mic... but beware of tight spaces.
I have used the beta 87a for a variety of situations. I specifically bought it for use on stage during my solo acoustic performances. i started playing with it in a small venue where i had my back basically in the corner of the room and a large crowd of people very close to me. the beta 87a was way too sensitive to all the noise bouncing off the walls behind me and cut out.
other than that, it has been fantastic for recording vocals in my home studio. i have even used it to record some acoustic guitar and it has performed exceptionally well. i am a little hesitant to use it in smaller venues now, though.
