Nice price but theres a reason - be wary of this one

Comments about Road Runner Slant Mixer Rack Case/Vertical Rack:

Not a bad case but one major flaw in the one I have and I only hope mine was a rare occurrence; the holes from left to right do not line up except about every 6th position. I own cases from star case, gator, anvil and calhoun and have never encountered this problem before, which would also explain the price. Granted I was able to work around this but cases are supposed to be laid out according to EIA rack standards and this one is not. Also, the screws provided with the unit are too long to mount anything in the mixer position as they bottom out against the wood underneath the rails. Lucky I had plenty of other hardware lying around and made it work. It would seem they are cutting factory costs by not buying proper left and right rails at the RR factory but that does not allow for the improper spacing of the rails to the wood they are mounted to, that's just poor construction. Doc, Carlos and the guys at GC Madison made me a great deal and overall it's a rack case but if you are looking for perfectly built at spec standards then make sure you thoroughly check this one before you buy it. You should not have to use a drill and tap to mount things in a road case. I'll give the GC staff 5 stars as they always rock, but not this case. Double-check yours for spacing before you buy it.

Great but should have had casters

Comments about Road Runner Slant Mixer Rack Case/Vertical Rack:

This rack (with a little modification held my Yamaha mixer and monitors amp just fine. However it should have come with casters. It's a two person move now that equipment is in it. It is really heavy.

    down and dirty

    By john kulin

Comments about Road Runner Slant Mixer Rack Case/Vertical Rack:

Bought this rack for an Allen & Heath mixer and an AxeFx II plus a 2 space effects unit. The rack ears for the mixer only lined up with 4 out of 8 holes. I had to force things to get two more screws in, no way could you get all 4 mounting screws in without enlarging the rack ear holes. Of the 6 holes that kinda lined up two did not have very good threads. After stripping around 8 screws I finally got the rack ears in place albeit with two holes empty. There were numerous scratches around the holes that werent threaded well so I am guessing someone had returned this rack for the same reason and GC put it back on display. Given the price I cant complain too much but I would have gladly paid $50 more for decent rails. These are the worse rack rails I have ever used. The supplied screws are very soft and strip easy. With decent rails I would have rated this 4 stars for the value.

    Good but with set backs

Comments about Road Runner Slant Mixer Rack Case/Vertical Rack:

    Good case. Read above.
If you have mixers with all of the major out boarding connections you will have modify the case a bit or readjust the position.
    Well built
    A bit pricey

Solid case - worth the money

Comments about Road Runner Slant Mixer Rack Case/Vertical Rack:

I own the 4U version of this case and am very happy with it. I tried very hard to come up with something to nitpick about and what I came up with was really my fault for not investigating before I purchased (item description doesn't specify "no rear rack rails). The case has no rear rack rails, so racking a heavy item like a power amp is limited to the bottom space so it can sit on the floor of the case. This thing is built like a tank and is heavy even when empty. The aluminum channel construction is heavy-gauge and the finish work is top-notch. Covers fit tightly and line up perfectly. The twist latches and corner protectors are top-notch too.One nice little bonus; the 4U case is actually 5U...at least w/my Behringer 2442FX mixer. The case comes with a 2U blank spacer plate that blocks off the top two rack spaces. If your mixer's bottom doesn't protrude below the first 1U of space, that 2nd rackspace is a freebee! So, I have three, 1U devices and a 2U power amp living happily in my case. The removable rear door is a nice touch too. I stapled some velcro strips to the bottom of the inside of the front cover; I store my mixer lamp in there. This case is worth every penny.
