I didn't have a block on my set before, but my musical theater gigs typically call for one - so I decided to get something to have, just in case. Didn't want to spend a lot of money since I rarely use it. The fact that this one came with the clamp was what attracted me. The clamp itself is great! Considering that many clamps go for more than this package - I'm pleased. The Moon Block itself is a bit weak IMHO. It's not very loud because it's just too solid. Needs to be more hollow. In fact, I'm considering doing some modifications to it with my drill once I have time. Because right now, it's not loud enough to use in the show I'm doing (borrowed another block and using it on this clamp now.) So it wouldn't be a great loss if I couldn't improve the sound. If I can...then this will turn out to be a decent deal. In other words: - GREAT CLAMP - Weak sounding wood block
This block is pretty high pitched and very nice sounding. Since I just got it yesterday I can't say anything about durability but it doesnt have any stick marks so far. The mount is sturdy but a pain to set up the 1st time so know where your gonna put it so your not changing it all the time. The one thing I don't like about this block is that it's not very cutting. I cant hear it well over my drum set playing. I think this would be fine in a jazz drum set or percussion set but since it's not that loud I wouldnt buy it if your just looking for a little toy for your drum set. I'm happy with it though!!
