Perfect for a home studio

At first when I purchased the Firebox I had problems with the audio droping in and out, even on the low CPU setting. I figured the FIREBOX was not the interface for me. BUT! When I reformatted my computer it eliminated a lot of the CPU usage happening in the background, therefore the FIREBOX worked excellent after the fact. Even the sound quality changed dramatically. I can now play it at its highest settings. So, anybody interested in purchasing a Firebox I suggest you surpass the system requirments and download the firewire patch for SP2 if your running Windows and disable your internet connection when recording. This is a great interface that will produce great sound quality for any project studio. ------ 3.0 Ghz P4 768 Ram

Excellent Choice

This box is great. 2 XLR inputs and 2 TRS is plenty for me and you can output all 6 TRS outputs at the same time. Zero latency monitoring of the input and DAW software is handled by the software mixer, which is great when tracking vocals with phones (internal with no cables required), but I wish it had the effects like the Saffire so that I use reverb/delay with the tracking instead of only dry (tracking with effects requires you route through your DAW software which adds latency). The preamps work fine, but I use a mic channel unit and feed it into the Firebox. The knobs all feel nice with detents to make remembering a previous level easy. The TRS jacks on the back are solid and accept balanced and unbalanced cables. A really nice feature is that there is a Main Level knob on the front that makes adjusting the volume of your monitors easy (since most monitors don't have volume knobs on the front!). It feels very solidly built. My first had a bad pot on the headphone knob, but they replaced it with a new unit. The bundled software is great, mini-ACID 6, mini Cubase, and a bunch of plug-ins that are somewhat useful. The latency on it is great at 44.1 or 48 (4ms), but above that, I had to set the latency (on my 2.8GHZ P4) at 18ms to use it, 20ms if the tracks get up into the teens.

Good Buy

I work in Pro Audio sales and i must say... if you're looking for an interface for $300 or under this is the one to get. Features are comparable to the M-Audio 410... but the Firebox has less self noise and better converters. Affordable and professional sounding.... I own one and its a great buy.

No, I Don't work for Presonus.....

....This thing is just that good! I finally purchased my FireBox a week ago. Spent hours researching and listening to every interface I could find. Nothing in this price range compared to the "BOX". Got home, opened it up, and read the manual. Ten minutes later I plugged the included firewire plug and opened Sonar 4 Producer(my software of choice). Grabbed my guitar and started recording. The preamps are perfect. You gotta love covinience of the combo jacks on the front two channels. Presonus made my modest computer recording setup look pro with the brushed aluminum faceplate and blue anodized control knobs up front. I plan on adding a Presonus Blue tube DP preamp using the two inputs in th rear of the unit. Tons of outputs back there two. Bottom line is this, the Firebox fills all of my recording needs perfectly and dosen't max out my Guitar Center Perfered Player Card. Check it out at any Guitar Center store, you will thank me for it!

Great Value for Project Studios

I opted for the Presonus Firebox over the larger, more expensive Firepod as I am just setting up my studio and I am very pleased with its overall performance. Easy setup, no problems with compatibility. I originally thought I would just use a BLUE Snowball and not have to get an interface, but my experience with a Mac G5 and Logic Pro was that the Snowball didn't jive with my system. The Firebox, however, gets along fine with my gear. They chat, have tea...they're buds. Anyway, the preamps and 48V phantom power eliminate the need for separate power supplies, the signal is clean, and the product is reliable. Not to mention that if you do decide to upgrade to the Firepod (I mean let's face it--you're not recording drums with this anytime soon), you can link them up and get more inputs. Great product, great value, especially for smaller studios.
