This is a great snare. Pork Pie hit a home run with this one. I bought it a week ago along with an Evens EC2 batter side snare head with a reverse dot. The head cuts the metallic overtones inherant in the snare. I played it on a gig this past Saturday and received a ton of complements on its sound and depth. A guy in the back of the room told me how it came out and just punched him. Unmic'd! This snare is a keeper. I am VERY particular about my snare sound and I just love the tone! I sounds like an arena snare. I am very happy with this purchase. I have 10 ply maple, 8 ply mahogany, a Pearl Joey, and this one leaves them all in the dust! Hands down my favorite. The only thing that I noticed with it is that you must be careful engaging the tension rods into the crome plated BRASS tube lugs. The steel rods could strip out the brass. Go buy one.

  • GREAT snare

As reviewed by Dave on 11/3/2008

No matter how you tune it,high or low, it rocks. I customized it a bit with die cast hoops, Dunnett throw off , and a 42 strand snare and still got a drum that easily blows away snares costing twice as much. Also, the color and the tube lugs make for one good looking drum.

  • Cracking

As reviewed by Chad on 11/15/2007

This is a crackin drum. If you could break a 2x4 over your knee with every back beat you would be close to the sound of this drum. Nice deep sound, sensitive to ghost notes, a sharp stroke in the middle and its loud, and rim shots ring beautifully. I got it because I wanted more choices, and I wanted a drum that would be even more distinct than my steel Pearl Piccolo aux snare. The Big Black Brass Drum fits the bill, and the price dosent break the bank. I would definitely purchase this drum again.
