  • Buy this one

As reviewed by Bill Moll on 9/18/2008

I've never seen a more full featured, and substantial stand even near this price point. There's more adjustability built in, than most "studio" booms, and the four, wide stance, legs with locking casters, practally assure no fall-overs, even given it's lightness. The last professional (old style) boom I bought came from a TV station auction. It wasn't as adaptable as this one, and weighed about 150 lbs. Even old, and at auction, it cost me more than twice what this stand costs - Buy this one!

  • Great stand for the price

As reviewed by Tom Laurenson on 10/1/2009

I record live music, both outdoor and indoor, for a local radio station. Often I need to get a mike high and in front of the performers, and in the absence of roof beams or similar from which to hang a fishpole, this gets me the position I need. It even has the reach to come in from the side of a small group so that I don't impede the view of the spectators. At full stretch, especially with a heavier mike, it needs extra counterbalance weight. Outdoors (on grass) I can remove the castors and use skewers to pin it to the ground. Otherwise, I can tie a round cast iron mike stand base to a leg. A hugely useful and cost effective addition to any small studio, and light enough for me to transport easily to assorted locations. At this price, it's hard to ignore.

  • Strong Sturdy Stand, But...

As reviewed by RSA on 11/16/2007

This is a great stand for the price, it ranks up there with Altas brand stands which retail for triple the price. OnStage offers great products at an excellent value, I have many OnStage stands - guitar stand, mixer stand etc. No problems at all in terms of quality and strength. I wondered initally why this stand was only about $80 - while the hex base stands from OnStage where much more. No question, they are equally strong - I purchased this stand to hold the tremendously heavy SE Reflexion Filter...the problem is this stand's base it way too big!!! This stand overall takes up a good 4 feet of space with the base and extending boom, definately NOT ok if you are using a recording booth, you'll have to record in the control room to accomodate and then worry about resulting acoustics. You can't quite tell by the photo but this is definately something that should be taken into account. If you do not have space constraints, by all means - this is a great stand. But if you are like me and don't have all the space in the world - this isn't the best stand.
