MiniNova is a powerful mini-keys synth with incredible performance controls which enable you to tweak and warp the onboard sounds, and your own voice. It has the same synth-engine as it's big brother - the UltraNova - and comes with 256 awesome sounds so you can get started straight away. If you want to dig deeper, it's got a fully editable Nova-class synth engine (derived from the legendary Supernova series in the 1990s).
Is MiniNova for you? MiniNova's compact size, massive sound and performance/editing controls make it perfect for producers, gigging musicians and anyone creating music with computers - it can also be a 37 key controller keyboard with MIDI I/O. The voice-tune and vocoder enable you to recreate classic vocal effects, as well as brand new voice-bending possibilities!
Choose your sound MiniNova has 256 onboard sounds and space to save another 128 of your own sounds. You can quickly search for sounds by selecting the type of music you're making, or the type of sound you're after whether it's bass, lead - hip hop or techno. MiniNova comes with a free software Patch Librarian so you can store as many sounds as you want on your computer. Tweak, warp and arpeggiate your sound MiniNova can do things other synths can't. It has knobs which allow you to tweak and edit the sounds, but it can also 'animate' sound with 8 back-lit buttons. These trigger 'mods' in the synth engine that can warp sound in incredible ways as you play. There is also a large knob for filter cutoff so you can get instant control of the filter whatever else you are doing. MiniNova has an arpeggiator with 33 patterns. You can use the 8 buttons to jam with these patterns, creating totally new sequences in realtime.
Classic & brand-new vocal effects MiniNova takes vocal effects one step further. As well as a vocoder, it has voice-tune - or the 'Cher' effect. This means you can talk into the mic and play the tune you want your voice to follow on the keyboard. You can also run your voice through MiniNova's effects engine, adding reverb, distortion, chorus/phase, gator compression or EQ. This doesn't need to be limited to your voice; there is an input which you can plug a guitar or any other instrument and give it the same treatment; effects or vocoder.
The synth engine & effects MiniNova has an enormously powerful synth engine, unheard of in such a compact synth. There are 14 conventional waveforms to choose from (square, sine, sawtooth, pulse, triangle and combinations), 36 wavetables and 20 digital waveforms. Each of the 3 oscillators (per voice) have density/detune for fattening up sounds, virtual sync and 'hardness' - which acts as an additional lowpass filter. There are 14 filter types (and you can run 2 simultaneously), 6 envelope generators, 3 LFOs and 20 modulation slots where you can link modules of the synth engine together to shape sound. MiniNova can add up to 5 effects to each voice including distortion, reverb, chorus/phase, delay, compressor, EQ and Novation's unique gator effect.
Editing software included Editing sounds in such a powerful synth can be overwhelming, so we've created a software application gives you visual access to the synth engine. Warranty Statement
All Novation products are built to the highest standards and should provide reliable performance for many years, subject to reasonable care, use, transportation and storage.
In the event of a Manufacturing Defect becoming evident within 12 months from date of purchase Novation undertakes that the product will be repaired or replaced free of charge if the product is returned to the authorised dealer from whom it was purchased. In these circumstances, or if you need an out-of-warranty repair to your Novation product, please contact Novation at: mickg@novationmusic.com and you will be advised of the correct return procedure.
Alternatively contact the Novation Reseller from which you purchased the product or the Novation Distributor in your country of residence or business. If you purchase a Novation product outside your country of residence or business you will not be entitled to ask your local Novation Distributor to honour this Limited Warranty, although you may request a chargeable repair.
Alternatively, the unit may be returned at your cost to the dealer you purchased the unit from so that they can organise a Warranty repair with their Novation Distributor.
This Warranty does not include cost of shipping to and from the authorised dealer from whom it was purchased. In every case it will be necessary to provide the original invoice or store receipt to accompany the defective product to the supplying dealer. This Limited Warranty is offered solely to the first purchaser of the product from an Authorised Novation Reseller (defined as a reseller which has purchased the Product directly from Novation in the UK or its Authorised Distributors outside the U.K,) and is not transferable.
This Warranty is in addition to your Statutory Rights in the country of purchase.
Please note: A Manufacturing Defect is defined as a defect in the performance of the product which may be expected from a reasonable interpretation of the published description and performance specifications as published by Novation. This does not include damage caused by post-purchase transportation, storage or careless handling, nor damage caused by misuse.
A significant proportion of products returned under Warranty (which are very few in number compared to numbers sold) are found not to exhibit any fault at all. Please check that the mains voltage is correctly set for your local supply and that your connecting cables are in good order and correctly connected.

The Novation MiniNova is the best in its lass, and there are some great little compeitiors. The MiniNova has a very deep and current synth engine, great look and feel, and some unique features. The animate buttons are momentary, latchable modulation routings, and you get 8 of them - think about that! Oscialltors ahev a lot of fvariety, Vocoder and vocaltune effects are tight, filter can scream. If you are shopping for something small with a serious amount of synth power and this is on your short-list, give this some serious consideration. Massive firepower!
I walked into the store looking to buy a microKorg, I left with the Mininova.
The first thing I noticed was how Performance ready it was. This thing is built exceptionally well, and is designed to allow for quick changes during live performance. The "action" controls are genius, and I have already been inspired by the many possibilities this function holds!
The sound is fantastic. When I heard the name Novation, I did not immediately think a great sounding synth. But that has changed! It is now sitting right above my Virus TI2 in my live rig!
The Vocoder/Vocal Tune is another highlight. The vocoder is the usual deal, but very well done. While the Vocal Tune is just a genius idea. If you are looking for autotune with your synth, this is the one for you.
All in all, I'm blown away, and very satisfied with my Mininova. I can easily see it becoming a permanent piece of my rig!
I've had a of synths over the 20 years of collecting and have amassed quite a collection from vintage analogs to more unusual digital synths. I've also been a big fan of plugins and use Ableton and Logic quite heavily. However, while sonically pleasing, a lot of the synths and plugins take just too much effort to get that "yeah! " feeling while looking for inspiration. The mininova on the other hand has that instant appeal - and hands on programmability, and a huge palette of sounds. In particular, I was looking for something that would fill the void left by my lamented but long gone JX8P, give me enough digital weirdness to replace my old 4 op FM synths, and also bring out some new contemporary flavors.
So, for my style of music - weird techno, tech-house, dub, drum and bass and occasional 80's style pop, I'm thrilled to have a new instantly hands on breath of fresh air in the mini nova.
Tiny keys - yes - so what ? I knew that going into this. Knobs and dials, sliders and switches - plus software integration and top notch sound quality.
Being portable, I can see this going into the back of the car on a long weekend away too. Fantastic.
