The Neumann TLM 102 defines a new generation of studio condenser microphones. This applies not only to the design of the microphone but also to its price.
Neumann reduced the overall size of the TLM 102 mic to make it exceptionally compact. Here's a microphone that unites all of the design components typical of a Neumann mic. The harmonious proportions and gleaming grille ring ensure that even at first glance, the TLM 102 condenser mic attracts attention.
In the interior of the TLM 102 is a newly developed large-diaphragm cardioid capsule with a maximum sound pressure level of 144dB. Use the TLM 102 to record percussion, drums, amps, and other very loud sound sources.
Instruments that are not especially loud also benefit from the very fast transient response of the TLM 102 condenser mic. However its most important applications are in the realm of vocals and speech. A slight boost above 6kHz provides for excellent voice presence in the overall mix. Up to 6kHz, the frequency response is extremely linear, ensuring minimal coloration, and a clearly defined bass range. The TLM 102 mic capsule's elastic suspension suppresses structure-borne noise. A pop screen integrated into the grille attenuates plosives in vocal and speech recording.
Due to its price and flexible field of application, the Neumann TLM 102 is an ideal condenser microphone for home recording and project studios, as well as for broadcasting—especially when clear lines of sight to the speakers are a priority.

I'm a Multi-platinum music producer and have recorded with the best, but I felt so compelled to write about this mic. I a/b'd this mic against my U87ai and loved the TLM 102 more! Hands down I liked the sheen, top end and well balanced low end. What a mic. I own several vintage mics as well and even though the TLM wasn't as warm as them it had character for days! What an unexpected pleasure! I brought another.
IMHO, this mic is pro sound in a nice Lil bundle.
Hope this helps!
When I was in school we used the higher end models, but when I heard Neumann was coming out with something more affordable I was like kind scratching my head like what are they doing, but then again they do want to get there product in more people's hands. So I ask Reps From GC and what they thought about it after I did my home work, the response I got were all positive so I got one the other day and man I was surprised, I even took it to the recording studio work at here in Miami (Audio Vision Recording) and myself an another engineer did some comparison to the U67 and the 87, we could tell a difference, but it was very small of a difference that we used it for some of the clients work for back ground vocals and it was awesome.
So in other words if you don't have U67 or 87 budget get the TLM 102, unless you want to put the others on layaway.
oh the Sennheiser MK$ shock mount fits the 102

Holy Smokes!!! Classic Neumann Sound for little money!!!
Let me start out by letting you all know I've been in the professional recording game since 1969. Yeah, I have worked with the best of the best over the years so here we go.....You get an amazing classic Neumann sound from this tiny little bodied mic. Absolutely great on both male and female vocals if you like the "U87" sonic flavor which is imprinted on so many top hit recordings of the past 40 some years. Marry it to a Grace M101 preamp (for clarity and soul) or an API 512C (for in-your-face rock and pop) and your recordings will have that "big studio" magic. Despite having an internal windscreen this baby Neu-Neu is very susceptible to plosives so be sure to stick a Stedman Proscreen XL in front of it!!! Hard to believe you can now get a real Neumann for such an affordable price. I'm lovin' mine!!! Once more - the TLM102 gives you the classic Neumann sound and if that's what you like, then you'll like this mic!!!!!
