  • i love this little martin!

As reviewed by brad powers on 4/29/2009

just got my Martin LX1E a couple weeks ago...and i couldn't be happier. it has a huge sound for a little guitar. don't expect it to sound like D18, or a big ol D28...but it sounds like a martin! it has a richer, woodier, deeper tone than all the other little guitars i personally played. i tried the baby taylor, a little alvarez, etc., etc...i just liked the sound of the martin better. it plays really smooth. i got it primarily to travel with for times when i don't need to bring my regular Martin D18-V (although i find myself playing the little martin all the time). anyway, i just got back from my first trip with it. stows easily on airplanes. it's very light and easy to carry thanks to the back-pack style gig bag that it comes with. speaking of which, the gig bag it comes with is very nice. it's very sturdy and extra padded! when i was out of town i was asked to play a song unexpectedly at a wedding. they had no sort of PA or amplifier and i was a little worried that it wouldn't fill the room, but i shouldn't have been! this thing is a little cannon! it does have a place for you to plug in and while i personally don't like to plug in acoustic guitars (i'd rather mic them), i did plug this one in to try it out...and it sounds great! it sounds like a much bigger guitar anyway you play it. i also wanted to add that at the time of my purchase, the LX1E was the only little martin that came with a solid sitka spruce top and that is why i chose it over other little martins. it does have HPL back and sides, but you can't tell by the sound of the guitar and i'm learning to appreciate that acpect as well. for example, i'm not only a working musician, but i am also a teacher...and using the LX1E for lessons has been great. it's easier to carry, you don't have to worry about dinging your bigger guitars...and the HPL back provides a quick and easy writing surface when you need one! i hope this review has been helpful. i don't normally review anything online like this...but i love this guitar so much that i wanted you all to know about it! :)

  • What a surprize!

As reviewed by Barry Buck on 7/18/2009

This Little Martin is great. I have a 1972 D-28 I got new. This martin, if played with the finesse neccassary to play a smaller guitar, sounds wonderful. Very Melodic and crisp, clean and full sounding, all in one. I know the price is extremely low for this guitar. I bought the Model with the built in microphone and it sounds great! Remember, a smaller guitar needs to be played softer, not hammered on for the true beauty of its sound to shine. WELL WORTH THE MONEY AND MORE.

  • my favorite guitar

As reviewed by Geoff black on 4/14/2008

I had a Martin Backpacker for many years and a few very cheap full size guitars. I always liked the backpacker for its portability but the mini Martin blows it away in sound. I am now fortunate enough to own a couple nice full size guitars which I play most of the time but the guitar that I'd keep over all of them is the mini. The portability matched with the adequate sound makes this the mini mighty workhorse. I mail ordered mine and my only complaints were some rough areas on the cross-beacing and of course a few bucks knocked off the price would be nice.
