• Great Pedal!!

  I was always skeptical about using pedals and was adamant about the natural sound from my bass. I eventually got prodded enough and bought the M-80 after reading TONS of reviews on many similar boxes. All I can say is WHAT WAS I THINKING!!! This box accentuates/enhances the natural sound of my bass so it projects further and has way more sustain, the distortion channel ads a whole new level to some of the heavier songs my band plays and allows me to fill in more for the guitarist while he goes off on a solo. I love the ability to go straight into the board with a custom sound and the option at smaller gigs to not need to bring as much gear. Great pedal, I hope it stands the test of time.

• Really - the ONLY pedal you need!

  I was tossing up the SansAmp and this to buy - and although the price difference is obvious and since I didn't really need a pre-amp, the MXR does dirt to the SansAmp. The ability to sweeten and warm your sounds and make your bass sound many time larger than it is are reason enough, but this stomp does so much more. In reality it is 3 stomps in one. You have the EQ area that can pump life into your bass and you do this before the sound gets to your preamp in your head. You can pick and blend from an infinite tone pallet. Then you have the DISTORTION channel where you can add just a smidge all the way to serious fry-your-brain clipping and overdrive. These two channels can be coupled and then you have the third option. You can turn them both off and just enjoy the clean sound which is really a fourth option - or not - but if you get lost and can't find a sound that just works, you can push another button and get to a pre-set EQ that is clean and gets you out of a sticky situation. It's all very easy - but it looks complicate. It ain't. Add in the DI-Out and the Parallel-Out, where I add my tuner to keep it out of the sound train, and you've got some serious pedal here. With Phantom Power and the ability to use this pedal on just about any instrument (even my harmonicas) will make the MXR Bass DI+ the keeper you will never let go. I've also looked inside just 'to see' - it's tough and sturdy and the pots are all very high quality. The knobs COULD be cheap plastic - but they aren't. They are a very resilient and a semi-rigid material that defies damage. Oh - BTW: Keep 'Monster Cables' out of this thing since their cable ends are too big, (but they know that and don't seem to care).

• The Only Stomp You Need

  I never wanted to mess with my bass voices and I figured adding anything to the sound would mess it up badly. Wrong! If you ever only buy ONE STOMP - this is the ONE!!! This has been in my setup for a little over a year and I would miss it terribly if it 'disappeared'. I have access to three sets of settings with it::: Clean, Boosted & Distortion, and if I totally foul up (it happens) I can hit the COLOR button and get a pre-defined set of EQs that will pull you outta the fire - fast! Lots of options and the 3-channel EQ section can really get billows of tone and sounds out of a passive bass to equal a full-on active pre-bass with NO/SOME/MUCHO colorization as you see fit.I use the DI occasionally for my tubed preamp and it's clean without any noise at all. One thing: SOME stomps after the MXR will protest a little since the output from the MXR is pretty hot - so make sure it runs at the end of the train and plug into your padded -15dB input if you have one on your amp. The AUX OUT is great for a tuner too! That keeps the tuner out of the signal path. The box feels heavy and really strong. The battery box is just OK - but I run it powered from a 1 Spot anyway. .
