Korg Kaossilator Pro+:

Description
The intuitive design and flexibility of the touchpad allows users who are not keyboard players to perform easily. Users can create performances that are rich with tonal changes that could not be produced on a conventional keyboard instrument.
A total of 250 sound programs
The Kaossilator Pro+ is packed with the cutting-edge synth sounds that you have come to expect from Korg. There are 50 additional programs in the Kaossilator Pro+, bringing the total program count to 250!
62 of these sounds are drawn directly from current musical genres, including familiar and extremely useful leads, and synth basses, along with sound effects for DJ use. Of particular note are the 26 drum sounds that have been especially enhanced. Updated drum PCM includes sounds from the acclaimed Wavedrum percussion synth for even greater performance variety.
With just a single Kaossilator Pro+ you can perform hip-hop, chiptune, house, dubstep, new disco, electro, reggaeton, and drum 'n' bass...or create your own genre!
Loop Recording function
Loop Recording can be set for up to four measures (16 beats.) Performances on the Kaossilator Pro+ can be recorded into any of the four onboard internal Loop Recorder Banks. By adding (overdubbing) additional sounds one at a time, you can create amazing looped phrases that range from minimal to fully orchestrated.. The four banks can be combined for virtually infinite performance possibilities. Each of the four loop banks can be muted or un-muted, its volume adjusted, and its loop length changed, making live performance easy for anyone.
The Kaossilator Pro+ provides line inputs and a mic input to allow for the recording of external audio sources as well. This makes it easy to add a vocal, or audio from any external device to any loop phrase created on the Kaossilator Pro+.
Musical Scale, Key, and Note Range help create musical performances
Even if you've never played a musical instrument, the Kaossilator Pro+'s Key and Scale features ensure that the notes being played will match the song being performed. Use the Key setting to specify the musical key or "root." Choose any of 35 scales, ranging from popular scales such as chromatic, major pentatonic, and minor blues, as well as unusual scales such as Spanish, Ryukyu, and Raga. By using both the Key and Scale settings to match the song, you can play perfect solos without a single wrong note. In addition, the Note Range allows you to specify the range of playable pitches. You can set this to a narrow range to ensure that melodies will be played accurately as you intend, or to an extremely wide range to allow unexpectedly dynamic and unconventional phrases to emerge.
The Gate Arpeggiator function lets you control phrases with complete freedom.
The built-in gate arpeggiator patterns can automatically generate phrases and beats by simply moving a finger across the touchpad. Use the slider to change the gate time and gate speed in real time for cool performances.
Pad LEDs ensure excellent visibility even in the dark.
The pad LEDs light up along the path of your finger, letting you play without difficulty even on a dimly lit stage. The four loop recording LEDs have been changed to a more intuitively obvious illumination pattern than on the Kaossilator Pro, and now light red during recording and green during playback.

Preset 212, 214, 216 are perfect for adding extra heavy beats to dance songs that originally don't have one All You doo is match the tempo on Kaossilator with the song tempo and tap away!!! This really gets the crowd going. Kaossilator is relatively simple with not a lot of tweaking available but it is effective not to mention fun. I highly recommend it for DJs
It's what you make of it...

The Kaossiltaor is an interesting piece of gear (not just for DJ types or EDM). It has looper capabilities on four separate tracks, simultaneously! It has numerous voices and drum and bass and acoustic sounds. It can be controlled with one finger. The question is... what are ya gonna do with it? I use it to add flavor to my main recordings via a tascam 24 track. (Think of it as a special spice in your spaghetti sauce of music). Actually I really like it and am surprised at it's value. But... you have to figure out if it fits your needs.. and then get creative using it.
Would buy again!!!

Sounds: It's from KORG, so there are no issues here with sound quality. I have been primarily a keyboard player/vocalist, and I was hugely pleased with the preset sounds available on the Kaossilator Pro+. What I didn't expect, having played mostly Yamaha boards, was the degree of... nastiness (in the BEST possible way) this unit can produce: feedback, ring modulation, bitcrush... and all intuitively controlled by the X/Y axis touchpad. Simply by playing with one finger, you can create sounds that would require three hands on a conventional keyboard, if they were possible at all. In addition, you can connect another instrument to the audio input to record loops with ANYTHING. Guitar, vocals, or any other instrument you can point a mic at. The unit allows infinite overdubbing of loops, so you can be as minimal or as orchestrated as you desire. The construction is solid, with a nicely robust outer shell. Combined with the "grabby" rubber feet, it will stay in place even through a monster session. There are a few drawbacks you should be aware of, but to me, none of these are a deal-breaker: No "undo" function: once it's recorded, it's recorded. If you make a mistake on the 17th layer of a particular loop, you must start over. No multitouch: This is an unashamedly monophonic instrument. If you want chords, you must use the ones included in the presets, or record them note-by-note (or play them on another instrument and record through the audio input.) No session record: This is kind of incomprehensible to me, as I own both the palm-sized Kaossilator 2 and the MiniKaossPad 2, both of which boast the ability to record your complete performances... If you want to record your performances on the Kaossilator Pro+, you will need an external recording device. It will record your loops flawlessly, but will not record the combination of triggering loops, and playing over them as either the K2 or the MKP2 will. Overall, this is an amazing piece of equipment that does exactly what it claims. The key and scale settings make it possible to forget about hitting "wrong notes" and just PLAY. Many possible uses for composing, performing, and recording. Nice and solid, and capable of producing sounds that are impossible on a conventional keyboard. Definitely worth a look.
