The Heil Sound PL-2T overhead boom uses a system of perfectly balanced internal springs rather than the unsightly, mechanically unstable outboard springs used on booms of much lesser quality. Handles microphones up to 3-1/2 pounds in weight.
If you're looking for a quiet boom that holds any position, this is the one you need. I've had mine for over a year now, and it has stood up admirably to my 'gentle ministrations', that is to say, I abuse booms. I just took it off a tilted table and moved it to a new desk. It is not the worse for wear and now stands up straight even though it has been leaning to the side for a year with a heavy mic on it. The ability to hide the cord inside the structure is a plus, making your setup look that much cleaner. All in all, I give it a 10 out of 5. It is expensive, but it stands up to abuse and stays quiet as a mouse.
I bought this boom on a whim and am very impressed with the construction and ease of use. The only drawback (if you can call it that) is I had to use scotch tape to hold the mic wire covers on. No big deal. If you are looking for a boom, buy this one.
I use this at my desk to record online classes. It is a well made product. Easy to install, firs great, swings out of the way and since it hold the mic high it helps with my sibilance issues - works perfect.
