Godin Multiac - How to Choose

Godin Multiac - How to Choose

Godin

Description

The "Slim" in this Godin ACS-SA nylon-string guitar's moniker refers to the 1.715" neck width at the nut—a mere 16th of an inch wider than Godin's standard electric guitar nut width. If you do most of your playing on a guitar with a fairly narrow neck (such as most solid-body electric guitars) this is the ACS-SA guitar for you.

The slim neck of the Godin ACS-SA Slim guitar, along with the Ergocut shaping technique and 16" fingerboard radius, provides for a very easy transition for steel-string guitar players looking to integrate nylon-string guitar sounds into their music. Aside from the new neck, the ACS-SA Slim shares all of the same features that have made the Godin ACS-SA nylon-string guitar an industry standard. The chambered, silverleaf maple body with cedar top results in a guitar that is virtually free of feedback, making it easy to use even in loud stage situations. Custom L.R. Baggs electronics with a 13-pin connector provides direct control of Roland GR Series and Axon AX100 guitar synths.

The ACS-SA Slim includes a gig bag.

It's a versatile product. I use it with my GR-55 and as a regular amp guitar. The was nicer than expected and the frets are easy to play with.

  • Amazing nylon string!

I'll preface this review with the fact that I run it into an aura spectrum di. For a direct recording option there's none better than the two of these together. I love the slim neck on the godin. It's not overly slim so you can still get all the finger style playing in. This is definitely my favorite guitar purchase I've made in years.

Pictures don't do it justice. I got the black one and it is gorgeous. The fit and finish are second to none. I haven't a synth or even an acoustic amp so can't really can't speak to the tone. The electric amps don't really help it much (haven't tried the Princeton yet) But, I really like playing it. Just putting my hands on it is a pleasure.

A first rate instrument. I am particular about what I play and out of the box the setup is perfect (just a 1/16" wider than my SG), the choice of strings is perfect for the guitar, the pickup system sounds clear and natural plugged directly into a sound system, the onboard electronics are easily accessible during a performance, the finish is flawless (satin), and the feel of the neck etc is excellent. Two things I would change: the eq arrangement (treble, mid and bass controls are reversed from the treble, mid and bass order of the strings.) And since I'll never use a midi converter and synth I wish they offered this model with the enhanced pickup system of the Duet Ambience instead of the 13-pin output.

  • This is my third Godin. They know how to build a guitar!

Even with the 1.715" nut width (as opposed to a standard 2" classical guitar nut width), is the fingerboard width suitable for finger-picking with the right hand, you don't have to use a flat pick? How about it's suitability for using a thumbpick? Also, unamplified, does the instrument produce enough sound to be heard well enough by an audience in a small- to medium-sized room?

It's a bit narrower of a space between the strings, but nothing too drastic. May be awkward at first, but easy to adapt to.
