I showed up at the guitar store to take a look at this, as well as a few other, LP standards. Was not thinking of purchasing until after x-mas. I played a 2008 LP standard, 60's neck LP standard, 50's Neck LP Standard, and even a VOS '58 LP Standard. They all sounded and played great. Then I plugged in this Guitar. WOW. The pickups SCREAMED without being noisy. The neck melted in my hands. The weight felt perfect. Cosmetics can't be beat. I couldn't believe that they were selling this guitar for only $2799 (considering all others with exception of the VOS were all $2599). The pickups aren't the only upgrade with this axe. AAA grade maple top instead of A grade. One peice mohagany body instead of 2. Upgraded bridge/hardware (although it does have the oldschool gibson delux tuners, not the locking ones on the 08 LP). Upgraded Caps to let this guitar BELT it out, especially high end. This guitar's tone played Clean, Crunch, and Metal, in my opinion can not be beat. Buy this while you can. I bought mine yesterday!

Well I was on the fence for a while, standard plus or 200$ more for the AFD. I went with the AFD for the SD pickups AAA top and weight relieved vs chambered body. Well had the axe for a week now and do not regret for a second passing on the standard plus. I wend back to guitar center and played a standard plus just to compare and again left feeling the AFD was the right choice.

Gibson is a magical company - really. You can try countless guitars off the rack and you can find some decent ones from all of the different guitar makers out there. But, that inspirational One always seems to evade your search. So, you settle for a guitar and you go about your business and everything is fine. Then one day, in a seedy smokey bar, you run into a kick-butt guitarist. The kind that might not be a household name, but has done session work with famous artists. He lights up a Marlbourugh and pulls out an old beat-up Les Paul that has more cracks and dings in it than Egyptian artifacts found in the New York museum. He plays a few notes and it just has that sound; perfect tone, perfect sustain. You pull out your guitar and it sounds like tin foil; no tone and the notes are weak. Then, you think to yourself, that is what I am looking for, why can't I get that sound? Well, you can. If you get a real Gibson you can get that "Holy Grail" guitar you have always wanted. However, in my experience with Gibson, you have to go all out. The Slash guitar is probably the best example of a 'real Les Paul' for the money. But, if have unlimited cash the ultimate Les Paul is the Mike Bloomfield LesPaul. I don't know what they do to it, as it has the same parts as a regular Les Paul. But, that thing almost plays itself. And, the tone is like nothing I have ever heard before. They must have a can of mojo and they spray their higher-end guitars with it, because they are truly magical. Unfortunately, you have to spend several thousands of dollars to get that experience.
Exquisite Guitar!

Just bought this beautiful guitar 2 weeks ago and have not stopped playing it. I have owned Les Pauls before but this one takes the cake......relatively lightweight (for a Les Paul), fast thin neck, awesome tone (even when plugged into a basic practice amp) and great looks (even the smoking skull signature is great). Yes, it is a lot of money for an instrument; but for me, it is worth having a quality guitar that will give years of service and enjoyment as opposed to a low quality one that you can quickly get tired of. If you can afford it, seriously consider buying it!

from the second I struck my first note to the moment I put it down because my fingers were on the verge of bleeding, I had never felt the rush of perfect tone and harmonic nirvana. It was as if I was playing but Slash's sound was coming out of the amp, it is an amazing guitar, godly tone, amazing harmonics, perfect neck profile, and gorgeous appetite amber finish, and beautiful 1959 classic look. If you have the chance to get it, GET IT!

So I got this guitar for being a Slash fan I thought, awesome! Another for the collection! But the thing is that I hate it, for completely taking over me and not allowing me to play any other of my Les pauls! There is no word to describe it! Simply amazing! The playability on the neck is fantastic and if u set ur amp just right you have that afd tone everybody lusts for! If u have the means by this thing! it's worth every penny and it sounds amazing! I'm glad I bought this as opposed to all the other models released in recent years! This one murders all the other models!
