Introduced in 1959 and priced for the beginning player, the Gibson Melody Maker Electric Guitar features a mahogany body with a lightweight '60s-style slim-tapered neck and torrified maple fingerboard with dot inlays. The Melody Maker Special has a Les Paul headstock instead of the Melody Maker headstock and is now powered by dual P-90 pickups that emit a classic vintage growl perfect for everything from roots to punk to blues. The maple body comes in a choice of grain-textured satin finishes while the set-in, 1-piece mahogany neck has the slim Melody Maker profile and a baked maple fretboard. The wrapround tailpiece, with its tight and solid design, offers the sustain and resonance that many rockers seek. The Gibson USA Melody Maker comes with deluxe gig bag.

The Melody Maker Special is made from solid mahogany. An archetypal tonewood used in countless classic Gibson electric guitars, mahogany has a sonic depth and richness that can't be beat, yet always remains clear and articulate. The guitar's neck is made from quartersawn mahogany, carved to a comfortably rounded profile. Its 22-fret fingerboard is made from baked maple, a heat-treated hardwood that provides outstanding durability along with excellent tonal clarity, and is topped by a PLEK-cut Corian nut for superb sustain and excellent intonation.

The tonal heart of the Melody Maker Special lies in its pair of P-90 pickups, beloved single-coil units that have been favored by rock 'n' rollers, blues players and garage rockers for more than 60 years. Made with genuine Alnico V magnets, these pickups provide as much power as traditional PAF-style humbuckers, but with a characteristic bite and midrange punch that really help them cut through the mix.

What Is Baked Maple?
Aging maple through a œbaking process called torrefaction. The wood is kept at 200-300º F for a period of time until the wood knows it' no longer a tree; Moisture is restored under pressure. This makes the wood very hard, sonically œlive and extremely stable. The snappy sound of ebony, with the look of medium-brown pau ferro. Many boutique manufacturers are now using this because it improves the wood with no chemical treatment, it' environmentally friendly and is great for making better sounding and playing guitars!
