Product Information

Comfortable asymmetrical neck is Plek-dressed.

Crank up a Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar and experience power and performance that has more than 40 years of craftsmanship and innovation behind it.

Pioneered and developed with the assistance of legendary jazz-pop guitarist Les Paul--one of the world's greatest musical and technological pioneers--the Gibson Les Paul has become the standard by which all electric guitars are judged. With fat, rich tone and incredible sustain, the Les Paul guitar lends itself to every style and generation of music. From the sweetest jazz to the heaviest rock and metal, the Les Paul is a guitar that can do it all--it is one of the most powerful and versatile instruments of all time.

The Les Paul Standard Guitar debuted in 1952 as Gibson's first solidbody guitar, and has evolved over the course of time to stand today as the benchmark for all electric guitars.

The Les Paul Standard continues to alter and inspire the sounds of today's ever-changing musical landscapes. It features a hand-carved AA maple top with matched chambered mahogany back outlined with single-ply binding. The neck is crafted from a single piece of mahogany. Carefully glued into the neck cavity of the body, the neck functions as a single unit with the body. Its asymmetrical shape is the most comfortable neck offered on a Les Paul Standard.

Burstbucker Pro pickups containing Alnico V magnets wound to vintage specs and with wax potting deliver original "Patent Applied For" tone.

All Les Paul Standard necks receive precision fret dressing and setup with the Plek system. As the guitar lies in a cradle, a computer-controlled robot arm moves along the neck measuring each fret's height, the fingerboard radius, even the bow in the neck. Using that data, the Plek machine adjusts the truss rod, cuts the nut slots for optimal spacing and height for each string, files each fret to a hundredth of a millimeter accuracy, and then polishes the frets. In a fraction of the time it takes a skilled technician, the Plek machine eliminates buzzing strings and dead spots, producing a neck with flawless intonation and superb action.

NOTE: To give you a choice of how your Les Standard should look, the pickguard is not attached but included in the case. To install the pickguard, holes will need to be drilled into the body.

NEW REVIEW - Somewhat dissapointed

I really thought I was ordering a black (ebony) guitar with white binding and trim. The guitar I recieved has a wonderfull gloss black finish accented with an ugly sort of beige or dark cream binding, switch washer, pickup mounts, and pick gaurd installed. I suspect the guitar might have been a returned item or demo since the pick gaurd had already been poorly installed, along with the required holes having been drilled into the body. I really wish they had not done that. The listing specifically states that the guitar comes without the gaurd installed. A second identical pick gaurd and mounting hardware was also included inside the case. To Guitar center's credit, they have changed and greatly improved the picture on their web page since I made the puchase. It now more accurately displays the colors, at least on my monitor. I am also less then impressed with the Plek setup. The strings are nice and close to the neck up by the nut but get too high up for my comfort by the time I get to around the 10th fret. It's not that I can't play it, I just find some other guitars more comfortable. I'm sure I'll end up correcting that eventually. The reason I'm keeping it anyway ? The SOUND. It sounds exactly like a Les Paul should. And in the end that's what is most important to me. I should also mention that I really like the new lighter body and the asymmetrical neck is a small but noticeable improvement.

LES PAUL 2008

I just got this axe in ebony. It is buy far the finest guitar I have played (I have a 52 tele reissue and a Martin HD-35). It has the tone and an easy playing neck. It is going to be hard to put down.

Outstanding

I just bought my 2008 gibson les paul standard yesterday. I got one in flamed root beer finish, and it is AMAZING. It is worth every penny that u cough up to buy this expensive instrument. The tone and sustain it has are just great. And the burstbucker pros sound amazing, and the asymetrical neck helps with the handeling. For those of you who aren't familiar with what an asymetrical neck is, it is a nack that is 60's style, (not fat) and on the side where your thumb rests its a little thicker, and on the other side its a little thinner for better action. This is a great guitar and is a great buy.

The "Gold" standard

Nothing compares to a real "Made in America" Les Paul. I've been playing them since 1989, and have purchased several of them since. Great sound, stunning looks, awesome playability, there's just nothing better. The only way I would not recommend this guitar is if you don't have a lot of gear. If you're only playing through an amp, with little or no effects, because there are many instruments out there that would sound very good also at a fraction of the cost, and of course I have to mention weight, Mahogony is VERY heavy, so this is not a guitar you'll want to have strapped on your shoulder for marathon hours. Don't settle for imitations, if a Les Paul is what you want, save your $$$ and buy the real thing, because there is no substitute! Although I'm commenting on the "Standard" Les Paul, I can also say that if you're looking at a Les Paul Custom, they play and sound just like the standards (provding they have the same pickups)
