Gibson Les Paul Standard Electric Guitar Ebony

Description
Pioneered and developed with the assistance of pioneering jazz-pop guitarist Les Paul--one of the world's greatest musical and technological pioneers--the Gibson Les Paul has become the standard by which all electric guitars are judged. With fat, rich tone and incredible sustain, the Les Paul guitar lends itself to every style and generation of music. From the sweetest jazz to the heaviest rock and metal, the Les Paul is a guitar that can do it all--it is one of the most powerful and versatile instruments of all time.
The Les Paul Standard Guitar debuted in 1952 as Gibson's first solidbody guitar, and has evolved over the course of time to stand today as the benchmark for all electric guitars.
The Les Paul Standard continues to alter and inspire the sounds of today's ever-changing musical landscapes. It features a hand-carved AA maple top with matched chambered mahogany back outlined with single-ply binding. The neck is crafted from a single piece of mahogany. Carefully glued into the neck cavity of the body, the neck functions as a single unit with the body. Its asymmetrical shape is the most comfortable neck offered on a Les Paul Standard.
Burstbucker Pro pickups containing Alnico V magnets wound to vintage specs and with wax potting deliver original "Patent Applied For" tone.
All Les Paul Standard necks receive precision fret dressing and setup with the Plek system. As the guitar lies in a cradle, a computer-controlled robot arm moves along the neck measuring each fret's height, the fingerboard radius, even the bow in the neck. Using that data, the Plek machine adjusts the truss rod, cuts the nut slots for optimal spacing and height for each string, files each fret to a hundredth of a millimeter accuracy, and then polishes the frets. In a fraction of the time it takes a skilled technician, the Plek machine eliminates buzzing strings and dead spots, producing a neck with flawless intonation and superb action.

Gibson Les Paul Standard-2011

I was always waiting for Gibson to do some major changes to its legend guitar and here it is.If you are a die hard traditionalist this will not be your cup of tea. That being said,I like the chambered body, Burstbuckers, locking tuners, locking input jack, new neck joint and plek set up.Setting pickups low and tweaking the set up to my preferences has been very rewarding. To me this model is more articulate but still has the Les Paul power to it.You might even detect a little 335 vibe as well. The neck shape is nice in my hand, being a bit fatter up top is fine with me, but can be a deal breaker with some folks. If you want to get away from the same old, same old and are good at dialing in your set-up this could be for you.
Butter

The guitar is fantastic. Whoever is ridiculing the PLEK set-up must like their guitars set-up a little on the rough side because this instrument plays like melted butter. The only negative I have is that Gibson for some reason has decided to use two different size screws for their strap buttons. The rear strap button screw is larger than the standard screw used for the forward strap button and as a result the Schaller Strap Locks (best strap lock on the market) are only useable for the forward button unless you desire to do some "wood-working" on your brand new guitar. The guitar itself is the "Standard" and rightfully so, because it truly sets the standard that guitars should meet. I initially had a Traditional Standard Pro (fantastic guitar for the price) but wanted to upgrade to a Standard. Glad I did, this is something I can hand down to my son.
The Standard Really Sets the Standard!

As one of the other reviewers said, what's not to like? This Gibson really sets the standard. I recently received my Gold Top, and she is gorgeous and plays like a dream. The asymmetrical neck is ingenious, and feels like a hybrid between the 50s and 60s profiles -- very comfortable and expertly finished. String bending on this is as easy as a Strat equipped with .09s. You're not going to want to put it down. The guitar arrived from GC perfectly set up right out of the box; all I had to do was tune it. The tone is awesome (as you would expect from an LP), and as others have mentioned, the BB Pros are somewaht brighter than Gibson's other pickups, but in a good way, and you can dial them down. If you're considering this guitar, do not hesitate to buy it. It is worth every penny and exudes quality.

I've owned an Epiphone LP Standard for awhile and decided to upgrade to the Gibson and it was totally worth it. This guitar sounds great is very playable and I even liked the Plek setup - I didn't need to make any adjustments to the guitar. I also appreciate the lighter, chambered body. It feels as light as the Epiphone version but the tone is definitely superior. Only minor gripe is that I'm not a fan of the guitar cable lock since it makes its trickier to remove the cable.

What's not to like! This Gold top is a beauty! Setup, condition on delivery, everything is as I would expect it to be for the price. I love the Burstbucker Pro PUPS and the new neck has a nice feel to it. Awesome Guitar
Somewhat dissapointed

I really thought I was ordering a black (ebony) guitar with white binding and trim. The guitar I recieved has a wonderfull gloss black finish accented with an ugly sort of beige or dark cream binding, switch washer, pickup mounts, and pick gaurd installed. I suspect the guitar might have been a returned item or demo since the pick gaurd had already been poorly installed, along with the required holes having been drilled into the body. I really wish they had not done that. The listing specifically states that the guitar comes without the gaurd installed. A second identical pick gaurd and mounting hardware was also included inside the case. To Guitar center's credit, they have changed and greatly improved the picture on their web page since I made the puchase. It now more accurately displays the colors, at least on my monitor. I am also less then impressed with the Plek setup. The strings are nice and close to the neck up by the nut but get too high up for my comfort by the time I get to around the 10th fret. It's not that I can't play it, I just find some other guitars more comfortable. I'm sure I'll end up correcting that eventually. The reason I'm keeping it anyway ? The SOUND. It sounds exactly like a Les Paul should. And in the end that's what is most important to me. I should also mention that I really like the new lighter body and the asymmetrical neck is a small but noticeable improvement.
