Great Value and Tone
This is the second Guitar Center Special Run guitar purchased. Excellent value. When purchased, I played an American Standard Tele, MIM tele and Squire Infinity. The FSR was the loudest with or without amp. I preferred the satin finish neck of the American Standard, but the overall tone [IMO] was better on the FSR. With some 00 and 0000 steel wool, it now has a beautiful satin feel. I have had this tele for 1 year. I have no issue with intonation or the brass saddles in general. I like the "Bill Kirchen" reversed control plate. I prefer the 9.5degree radius neck over the 7 degree of the '52 reissue. The neck pickup is full with a good bottom end. The bridge p-up is fantastic; much more usable than my American Strat bridge. Great with a Soul Food or Maxon overdrive. There has been zero issue with staying in tune. At rest, it has a bit more buzz than my Fat50 Strat, but it has about 6db more output. Overall, I couldn't be happier with this Special Run and believe it represents an outstanding value. I was actually looking for a Classic Vibe. If they didn't have the Vibe [and my store didn't], I would have went for the American Standard in red [which they had], as I love my America Standard Strat. But, after playing a variety of Tele's I could not justify the extra $700 on the American. It has been a great Tele so far. No regrets. No desire to "upgrade."

Slightly disappointed
Fast delivery. Was surprised it wasn't damaged because it was just a guitar in a box. I think they could do a lot more to protect the guitar besides putting it in a box with a single layer of foam around it. The picture shows "special edition" text on the back of the headstock. Mine does not have this. If I ever try to sell it, most will just assume it's a standard tele with the control plate turned backward. Guitar was pretty dirty with smudges and prints all over the body. I didn't feel like I got the new guitar experience when I pulled it out of the box. For comparison I received a different guitar a few days ago from another place. It made me feel like I picked that guitar up from the factory. Swapped the pickguard out before even plugging it in. Only had one rubber insert on the neck pickup teles use to keep the pickups taught most always have two. Other than that it has that tele sound and the ash body is nice. I do wish it came with a gig bag. If I had to do over again I would buy a standard tele and swap out the bridge.

I have one of the early runs of this guitar (Serial starts MX13, so a 2013) and it has been a solid guitar. I have never had fret buzz. Action and intonation was greatly improved by adding Gotoh compensated brass saddles with the string groves. I was amazed to see these were not dome sized pots, but rather they are full size CTS pots. The route and ground placement will not allow you to flip around the controls, but I have learned to like it this way. Also, the control cavity is partially shielded (shielding paint). cons: 60 cycle hum, but you know that getting into it. My jack has had some issues. Until I replaced the saddles the string spacing was not consistent, and the 1st string (high E) was too close to the edge of the fretboard.

This brand new tele was a gift I was giving and when it arrived we opened it to find that it had been dropped and had some pretty serious circular cuts in the wood by the bottom strap peg. It was obviously damaged in production because the paint covered the damaged area so I was kind of really suorised. I love Fender, been playing them for over 30 years and this may be just a one time thing but I was a bit embarrassed by my gift to my friend being danaged and now have to go return it. Ill still keep buying Fenders. The guita4 itself is fantastic as always with Fenders but the damage shouldn't be on a new guitar.... that's our job to bang them up lol
Beautiful Tele, Can't beat the price, Fantastic Quality!!!!

I bought this guitar from another site but am very happy with the sound and playability. The guitar came in perfectly setup and with a surprising one piece Ash body. Everything functions well and sounds great in church praise services.

Lifetime novice but I do enjoy messing around with guitars! Internet purchase kind-of felt like a bad idea. As Ed Cherry says if its ain't been in a pawn shop it can't play the blues. Ordered online during Covid onset, it took a while. I was happy to wait. Tele arrived in a cardboard box generously cradled in bubble wrap. Seemed to play and sounded great. Alas it was missing the pickup selector knob, I didn't really care. Guitar Center sent a follow up "Quality Check" email let em know about the knob, The manager from the Guitar Center store in Indy (where it came from) sent me a replacement knob and set of strings of my choice, customer service!! I'm mostly an acoustic player so the action seemed a little low. Watched some youtube vids about guitar setups and basically ended up raising the string saddles. With my cheapo Fender Champion practice amp and looper pedal I'm having great jamming and carving out solos for the first time in years. Cant wait to upgrade to a Princeton tube amp, this little solid state Champion goes south at higher volumes. (for me anyways) Guitar plays mighty fine for me with the slightly higher action, intonation seems pretty on although I'm no pro. Soon I'll take it to our local Luthier for an even better setup, not sure if everyone would need that. Where ever this instrument ends up down the road, be it a pawn shop or played by a grandkid, I think the 2020 edition from Mexico with the last of the pre covid, climate change, Ash Borer ash bodies will be special, its quite beautiful to me. According to the article they'll still offer Ash Bodied limited edition high end models bit this is the end of the more blue collar ones. Happy to support Guitar Center and Fender workers with the purchase.

I've had this guitar for about one and half years, I've used it mostly for practicing and jamming. This guitar is one the best playing and best sounding guitars i've ever played, it feels very good and the pickups sound nice. the only thing I didn't like was the reversed control plate, because it's very easy to accidentally lower the volume, but it's not a dealbreaker. For the price it's really a great guitar, great for any level of play.

These two models are very similar. The Fender Special edition deluxe has an ash body and two Hot Standard Tele Single-Coil Pickups. The Fender Tele Player series has an alder body and Player Series single-coil Alnico pickups.submitted6 years ago
