Ok fellow pickers here it is,
I ordered this on black Friday and i got it the next Wednesday. It came in a plane cardboard box with very little wraping an it was flawless. I haven't order a guitar online before, i always play them first. I took a chance on this and I was not disappointed. This tele plays like butter.
The neck is straight, fret work is good and the body is butterscotch blonde flawless. I build guitars so I knew I wasn't going to leave it along, I gotta HOT ROD it, but I knew I was going to do that anyway. Fender vintage noiseless pickups a 4 way switch and Gotoh bridge later it's a beast. It seems like alot to do to a brand new tele, but even with the original price and the add-ons i am still under 1000.00 bucks for one awesome tele. One last thing, DO NOT let the MIM (made in Mexico) put you off. This is a very nice guitar. Just remember get the ash wood tele, the MIM painted tele's are alder wood, not bad, but the tele sound is ash wood. This is an FSR (factory special run)the control plate is reversed and the volume is in front, plus notice the head stock decal. Very Cool!!! I own eleven guitars and this one just got moved to the front. I've had this for less than a month and i can't put down....
I purchased the FSR Ash Telecaster recently because of the playability and the quality of construction. The body, neck, frets and butterscotch blond finish were flawless. It played great off the shelf but I had it professionally set up, installed Van Zandt True Vintage pickups and reversed the controls back to where they were suppossed to be, with the pickup switch in front. Now it is an amazing axe. I really believe that it sounds better than the '52 reissues that cost 3 times as much. This Tele has become one of my favorite guitars and I highly recommend it.
I looked at many Telecasters before deciding upon this one. This was to replace my FSR Ash Tele, which was stolen in a home burglary. Heartbreaking.
Anyway, I really liked the look of the butterscotch blonde. I had at one time owned a Squier Affinity Tele in butterscotch with a maple neck. It had been upgraded with a Seymour Duncan in the bridge, and a Fender logo on the headstock. I put a set of Fender locking tuners on it. I'm still kicking myself that I had let it go in a trade for an Epiphone LP, only to discover that I'm just more of a Fender guy.
Anyway, this guitar has some features which I liked. In fact, I had been planning to upgrade my now-stolen guitar with the vintage 3-saddle bridge and single-ply black pickguard in order give it that '50's look which I really enjoy right now.
The store didn't have any in stock when I was there. Well, they did have one, but it had already been sold. Apparently these guitars sell just as soon as they arrive at GC. They ordered one from their distributor, and it arrived three days later. I had never gotten a guitar in its original box, although I had bought several over the years. A quick inspection in the store for obvious defects yielded none, so I took my new treasure home.
I tuned it up and played it, and immediately found that it was in dire need of a good setup. The truss rod was out of adjustment, the action was high, and the intonation was way off. After a half hour or so on my workbench, it it was ready to go.
Every guitar is different. Even though this is very nearly the same as my old guitar which was stolen, it somehow feels different (not in a bad way), but honestly, that's probably all in my head. It sounds the same as my old guitar coming through my amp. (I'm currently playing through a Fender Acoustasonic Jr.) It has the signature Tele twang, perhaps even a bit more so. Could it be the vintage saddles?
Shortly after I bought the guitar, I purchased a bridge cover (ashtray). During my first practice, I realized why you don't usually see guitarists play with the bridge cover on: it is nearly impossible to palm mute without distorting my natural reach. Oh well, now I have something else to put in the compartment of my case.
Overall, I'm pleased with the guitar. It came as the result of losing a guitar which I really, really liked, but the more I play it, the more I realize that this is the guitar I had wanted in the first place.
