Add fat to your Tele twang with a beefy neck-position humbucker.

The Fender '72 Telecaster Custom Electric Guitar is a versatile tone machine. 1972 was a magical year for the Telecaster, as the venerable design spawned options and new designs left and right. The Custom took a classic alder body and added a C-shape maple neck, bullet truss rod, vintage string-thru Tele bridge and 3-bolt neckplate brought to life by a Wide Range humbucking neck pickup and a traditional single-coil bridge pickup. Controls include 2 volume and 2 tone knobs plus a 3-way toggle switch. Black/white/black pickguard.

Check the drop-down menu to the right to select colors and/or other options.

  • Just like the one I had in 1978!

As reviewed by John - Near Milwaukee on 7/5/2010

This is a childhood friend that came back to me. I had the real guitar from 1978 to 1982 and I regret that I sold it. The tone, paint, chrome, action and everything about this guitar is like my old one. The pickups are very warm and round and bright. The humbucker in the neck position lets you play jazz and blues with great style. Almost plays itself! Great guitar...after 30+ years I have another burst Tele custom!

  • A great, classic guitar.

As reviewed by Matt W. on 1/16/2011

Some reviewers on other sites have complained about the pickups and the tuners on this guitar. I haven't had any issues with either; the guitar has to be re-tuned occasionally, but no more than any other guitar that I've played. As for the pickups, they do what they're supposed to do. The humbucker gives you the thick, more harmonically complex sound, while the bridge gives you the Tele scream. If yours isn't screaming, perhaps you need to change your amp and/or pedal settings; I play through a pretty mediocre Peavey Express 110 that I bought back in 1995 with Boss Super Overdrive and Digital Delay pedals. It sounds fantastic to me. This is a great guitar. Yes, it's made in Mexico. Yes, you'd be doing more for the American economy if you bought an American Special (a model that I also own and recommend). For the money, though, this is a fantastic instrument and if you're seriously thinking about buying one, I'd say 'go for it.'

  • Nothing Like It

As reviewed by Michael on 3/24/2011

There's nothing like this guitar. Sweet with a nice bit of chunk because of the Humbuckers. Plays well. The original tele bridge sets this apart from many of the other current tele models
