good axe, one of Fenders best
This is a well built strat. I was wondering if Fender still made the candy apple 57' vintage that David Gilmour picked up in 1984. (He used on the Momentary lapse, Division Bell albums and tours.) Stick some EMG single coils on this baby and u have Gilmour's post-waters axe. I was impressed with the quality it had. It plays like no other strat. hooked up to a marshall amp its beautiful tone exploded. Price is high though u get what u pay 4.

Surf Out with this baby
I got the '57 finally. I had a standard strat and always wanted an american. It is so nice. The pups arent as hot but they have a warm vibe to them which is what I love. The V neck is a bit more comfortable. The lacquered neck needs some getting used to. I think the trem is just wonderful. My standard had a vintage trem but it was pure junk. This one for some reason feels awesome, but I'll prolly chop it off a bit.
As far as craftsmanship, I was a lil disappointed. Action and the Pup height needed to be adjusted, intonation slightly. and none of the screws were fully tightened, pup screws were loose, neck screws were loose, switch screws were loose, took alot of adjusting. Another thing is they used to make the frets low back then so there is alot of fret buzz! low action goes out the door. Also the paint near the neck chipped a lil when adjusting the truss rod.
I gotta let the lacquer smell grow on me too, smells kinda I guess "old library bookish" which kinda goes with the whole vintage thing... However, all in all I'm glad I got this otherwise I would have always wished I got it...

fender's best
In my opinion this is Fender's best non custom shop guitar. Nice weight, perfect neck contour (soft V)and radius and a "nitro" finish. I just bought my 3rd one last week, a 50th anniverary 1957 reissue! My oldest is a 1988 "Mary Kaye" and matches the 50 annivesary. These new ones have the American Vintage pick-ups which are a tad more focused, a bit brighter and quieter than than either my '88 or '97.
These are outstanding for any genre of music, strap it on and play all night (without breaking your back). They chime like church bells when played clean and get as raunchy as you want when driven. They sound like angels singing thru an old tube amp like a Super Champ or a Twin Reverb w/ the set reverb around "5". Heck, they even sound great plugged intothe house P.A.
The Stratocaster is the perfect guitar (I have 10) and the '57 is the perfect Strat. If you buy a Strat, try to buy an American (although I feel the Mexican Strats provide the best "bang for the buck" available) and if you can swing it, buy the '57 reissue. Vintage sound, looks and hardware w/o the high price of true vintage.
The G&G tweed case ruggedly built, there's the usual case candy and more.
The only down side to the "57 is in order to adjust the neck, you must remove it from the body. The truss rod adjustment is buried when the neck is on the guitar. If you have a tech do your work, don't sweat it. If you do your own adjustments, plan for a little longer and do it in conjucntion w/ a string change.

Amazing guitar, no regrets
This is an amazing guitar. I started playing an Ibanez GRX40 which was an okay guitar, but wasn't that good. I was upgrading to a new guitar, I was looking at a Strat or a Epiphone Les Paul Custom. I played this guitar in the store, and I loved it. Simply brilliant. I played about 1-2 hours in the store before I agreed to buy it. It is extremely easy to bend the strings, quite a light guitar, and very versatile. I definitely reccomend you to buy this if you are looking at it. The finish is BEAUTIFUL. 3 months later, I have absolutes no regrets in buying this guitar.

Great guitar
I was looking for a John Mayer signature strat, but stumbled into this guitar. It's a great fun - sweet sound, wonderful action. A real joy to play.
