Fender American Standard Jazz Bass Black Maple Fretboard

This is the bass I have always wanted. This is the bass you should own. It sounds unbelievable through my SVT-3 Pro with 4-10 Avatar Neos. The custom shop mid 60's pickups make a huge difference over last years model. The quality is superb, except the pickguard will show the screw holes as dots when it reflects stage lights. Picky, picky, I know. The sustain is like nothing else I have played. The action is excellent, though I have not had my second adjustment yet by Jay at Guitar center (the best guy ever!) The tobacco sunburst finish is impeccable. I have found the ability to control dynamics and notes to be outstanding in this bass. When I hit that fat note, no need to play a lot just let it ride and its a beautiful thing. The sound of the notes across the fretboard is amazingly consistent and resonant. There are a lot of great basses out there, this is a fine instrument and worthy of your consideration due to its versatility and tone control in all genres of music. It is the standard.

I've been playing for 30 years and have had many basses, rigs, and assorted PA equipment. The Fender American Standard Jazz bass is the best piece of musical gear I have ever bought. It has great tone and plays like a dream. A friend of mine told me to never be afraid to buy the best because you'll never be disappointed. This bass is the best. And I wrote this review because I'm just that happy. No one paid me and I'm a real person. Rock on!

I have a big problem with this bass. But before i get to that let me say what i like, i mean, LOVE about this bass. The look is classic you really cant change anything. sound is amazing. with the 2 pickups, you can get every sound out of this bass that you want. With any amp, you can go from a bass-ey sound (upright ish) to a full on jaco/slap sound. The knobs are really easy to use. i thought it would be complicated but really its just volume for the bridge and neck pickup plus a knob for the overall tone. the tuning pegs are amazing. I tuned my old bass once a day but with this bass, the only time i ever tune it is if i hit one of them, or want to go to a different tuning. It sounds great with Standard tuning, Drop D, D standard (DGCF), and even drop C (CGCF). i tried to try it in BEAD but the strings just get to floppy at that point. Bottom line is that these pickups make the strings sound great no matter what tuning you are in. Also all types of music are good on this bass. i can go from a funk song to jazz to heavy metal with a few turns of the switches. its amazing!!! Last but not least is the weight. It is more heavy than my other bass but that is fine because i love the weight. Although i am not in a touring band, i sometimes play gigs around with my high school jazz band and even some other bands in the area. The longest i have played with this bass is 3 hours with 2 (maybe 3 breaks) and it felt great. As long as you dont keep it far below your belt your back will be fine. Now as i said before i do have one big problem. The problem is that this bass is to perfect. Before i got this bass, i would search every bass in the world thinking "i want that bass because...". Now owning this bass, i cant find one that could be a better upgrade. I have looked at every bass out there and i cant find one that is better than this one. Sadly, i think that this is the last bass that i will buy. then again, i could go for the Fretless and 5 string version :P

I love my new American Standard Jazz Bass.But when I went to pick it up at GC West LA. I noticed there was some fret buzz and I wanted some adjustments. The tech came over and took a look. He told me all instruments buzz,he'd already set it up and that's as good as it would get. He also told me that I got a good deal on this bass and if he did anymore he'd have to charge me. In twenty seven years of playing music and shopping at music stores I've never experienced treatment like this. I just shelled out 1,300 bucks,this bass should have been perfect. I took the bass and left. I am taking it to a local tech who will adjust it to my liking. I won't be making anymore major purchases at Guitar Center.

I purchased this model in the sunburst color!! I was so excited to own my first Fender ever. I'm still pinching myself and find myself staring at the beauty of this instrument. Being that I have yet to master basic set up work on an intrument , I noticed a lot of fret buzzing during play and knew I wasn't comfortable with making the nessecary adjustments to eliminate this issue. I called a local GC store to price the setup cost and was told about $50 bucks. The only reason that didn't sit well with me is because I just spent $1250 for the bass!! As a professional sales person, I don't think someone spending that kind of money should encounter additional expenses for a "proper and basic" setup? GC... please keep that in mind when putting new instrument on the floor at that kind of price.

I am a guitar player by guilty pleasure.. For twenty five years.. I needed a bass to fill the bottom end of my recordings.. After all of the research and playing time I ended up purchasing this Awesome Bass!!! It plays rather smoothly and sounds fantastic.. I find myself riffing with this alot more that first anticipated. The only gripe is.... And its a no brainer (single coil)... But, the pickups hum just a tad bit when located in certain positions near my recording gear.. No prob.. Just move till it stops.. I suppose that I could throw in a pair of noiseless pups but why???? It does sound perfect.. My styles are blues, jazz, rock/fusion.... If you are considering a purchase look no furthur... You will love it.. Oh and I bought the sunburst with a rosewood neck... Tremendously exquisite............
