NEW REVIEW - ernie ball power string winder

this string winder is a real time saver. i own over 30 guitars and play out regularly with many of them. i change my strings often, and winding all these strings by hand can be a real drag. the power winder makes string changing(almost)fun.

Avoid This Thing at All Costs!

Guitarists, DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF JUNK! I bought one today, and took it back to GC within an hour. Poor quality electrical contacts make it work intermittently. In other words, when you pull the trigger, it might come on, or it might not. The quality is so cheap to begin with. You feel more like you are holding a kid's toy in your hand instead of a serious tool that a professional musician or technician would use. Ernie Ball owes us an apology on this one! By the way, if yours does work, GO SLOW when putting on a string. If you tension it up too fast, and the string goes ka-pop, then it is your fault, not that of the device. You would be better off getting a string crank that can be adapted to an electric drill. Be careful though. Operator error can happen with that also.

GREAT TOOL - IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING

I've been using this tool for three months and it is really great. Every 2 to 3 months I change strings for my guitars and basses and it used to be a long process – 30min to 1 hr. With this you can change them in a moment – clock in hand 12 min. Nevertheless the principles to change strings remain; if you stress a string too much it will break for sure, if you do not constantly bend it during the process it may break or will lose the tone faster, you wind strings counter-clockwise specially remember this in a 3x3 arrangement or you will break some (that’s why it has reverse), etc. This is not a toy neither an industrial tool, it serves for what is meant and is definitively a must if you regularly change strings to your gear.
