worth every penny
I was looking for an active system to replace my aging jbl mrx tops, that I primarily used for small-medium club events, school plays, and smaller rentals. Additionally, I was looking for something that could be used as stage monitors as well for my larger shows. These boxes fit my budget, and seemed like they would fit all the needs I just mentioned. After purchasing, I was a little skeptical that they would have enough power to handle my needs, and I was a bit fearful that they'd start clipping before the needed output level was reached. The first event I took them to was at a local club. The place wasn't too large, it could hold maybe about 100-150 people max, with a dance floor capacity of about 50. The act that was playing was a regular of mine, a pop group that included drums, bass, guitar, keys, sax, trumpet, and 4 vocals. The zlx12p's were paired up with a set of cerwin vega sl-36's powered by a qsc rmx2450, 1 sub and 1 top per side. I cut everything below 60 Hz to the tops, and everything above 75 Hz for the subs. During setup, I ran pink noise trough the console, with the output meters kissing 0dB, then did the same on channel 1 of the zlx's, finally I pulled the master volume up to 0dB, with the setting on live/pole mode. Once the band began, I'm pretty sure I didn't stop smiling for the entire night. To say the mids and highs were good is a complete understatement. With very little eq I had the entire group sounding fantastic, and I wasn't the only one to notice. The dance floor was more packed than it had ever been, and everyone stuck around until the end, a phenomenon I had never witnessed with this group/venue combination before. The band leader commented at the end of the night that he had never had so many compliments, and every musician was showering me with praise. The female vocalist had only been with the group for a few months, and I had never worked a show with her. Her family couldn't stop telling me how clear she sounded, and that how at every other gig, her voice got buried under everything else. These little plastic boxes sound as good as something 5 times as expensive, and I definitely plan on purchasing more (as soon as this week, actually). They aren't the least bit harsh, unlike the jbl prx's I work with at a different company I sub for. Giving the correct application, they really do shine. I wouldn't recommend using them as mains for larger outdoor locations, nor if your band has a bunch of marshall cabs all over the stage, and if you're a dj, I'd plan on taking subs with you to your event. Next week I have a few gigs with an irish folk/rock group, hopefully by then I'll have another pair and can see how they do as monitors.

Sound good so far, some MFG QC issues
Just got the first pair of the 3 seperate pairs ordered and only had 1 out the box for a listen and inspection so far. I did find some quality control issues, the badge had some slight rattle if I tap on the grill so I wemoved the screws and pulled the grill where I found several issues. Made in China at it's best! Of the 8 screws that fasten the LF driver in the frame, 3x were about 3/4in still sticking out and the rest were not very tightly installed, The little IC behind the badge that holds the front LED was loose and one of the 6x screws that hold the front grill on dont get tight because the plastic threads are stripped. This was a sad sigh for me to see and leaves me uncertain if these things will last a long time or fail early. The audio check I performed was only a basic test at home with several tracks sampled via ipod directly connected and with some brief high volume audio and tested on the dirfferent dsp modes. Sounded good with some powerful output and I can't wait to try these in a live performance as stage monitors as that will be the intended use.

I've used these for my band since 2013, and they have been great. No problems whatsoever, and we've been gigging about 2 - 4 times a week over that time period. I used them with and without subs and put the kick drum through them without subs with no issues. One thing that did happen after a few years - the output jack on one of them stopped working, but that's not that big of an issue since I was able to run the cables to the sub and then to the mains instead of the other way around. Other than that, no problems.
