Overview

Years in the making from Eddie Van Halen guitars, the EVH Wolfgang Special features a flat AA maple top with 5-piece binding, a basswood core, and a quartersawn maple neck that is reinforced with two graphite rods. The AA bird's-eye maple fingerboard has a 12" to 16" compound radius and is dressed with stainless steel vintage-size frets that are practically indestructible. The frets on the EVH Wolfgang Special electric guitar are super resistant to wear spots, nicks and dings, and provide for smooth feel and bending action that doesn't wear out.

Custom-designed EVH humbucking pickups are hard-mounted to the body and are wired to Bourns low-friction pots. These custom designed volume and tone controls are available only on the EVH Wolfgang guitars.

The EVH Floyd Rose tremolo unit is the first ever signature Floyd Rose tremolo bridge. It was exclusively designed for the EVH Wolfgang Special guitar and comes with the EVH D-Tuna that lets you instantly go to a drop-D tuning. EVH chrome Gotoh tuners with pearl buttons are built exclusively for the Wolfgang guitar.

The Eddie Van Halen guitar has a thin skin finish that allows for the inherent tone and resonance of the wood to dominate the overall sound of the guitar. Unpainted body cavities allow for the wood to naturally breath and age, further adding to the character and quality of tone in this magnificent electric guitar.

Exclusively to the EVH Wolfgang guitar is its custom-made molded SKB case. It is durable, lightweight and compact. With plush lining, TSA-approved latches and Eddie's trademark stripes in 3D, your Wolfgang electric guitar will be well protected on the road and in the air for decades to come.

The EVH Wolfgang guitar is built to Eddie Van Halen's exact specs and has every single feature of the Wolfgang guitars he himself plays onstage and in the studio. It's exactly what he uses.

Just received my EVH Wolfgang Tobacco. All I can say is Wow!! I can honestly say that the reviews prior to the release of this incredible instrument did not do it justice. There is one cool little feature that I never read anything about, the hash mark on the volume and tone knob glows in the dark. Just a neat lil feature. Thank You Eddie for you years of tinkering and tone chasing, I'm a happy man with an incredible work of art!!

This is a nice guitar but its missing two tone-changing key components - a nitrcellulose laquer finish and the solid maple top. The top on this guitar is VENEER so its only as thick as paper. It's impossible to get that maple top 'snap' out of a veneer top. Additonally, there's nothing "special" about being foreign-made.

This Wolf can Howl

By daniel duberry

from New Mexico

I have a Wolfgang special in Tabacco burst. This guitar out of the box is setup to Eddies specs. I put 10s on it and added an extra sping in the Floyd to compensate for the string tention. I had it proffesionally setup like always. Quality parts are one of many strengths this guitars has. it seems dail in with great detail just what works for my playing style. Eds a perfectionist so I thought he might weed out all the low end parts and build somthing nice. He did. The price point isnt that cheap but perfect for a giging musician who doesnt have a lot or want to watch beer get spilled on your USA Wolfie. You get what you pay for. An oustanding for the price point guitar thats les paul deep, a sustaining Slashy leads can be had as well as mid range smooth clear as a bell crunches to smooth jazz cleans and even a bit of spank for crip clean rythms. Now I dont play like Eddie I dont tap or shred so even though he is THE man I dont think you have to play like he does to get your sound out of this instrument. So Build quality?... check, Tones for days?...check, looks like a million bucks?.. check. you cant go wrong in my opinion. its very versital.

Great for rock..bad for metal

By Justin Bora

from Almont,MI

I owned this guitar for two years and for the most part i enjoyed it. I loved the feel of the unfinished neck and the body shape although different was comfortable to play. That aside i was disapointed to find that the floyd isnt a floating floyd meaning you cant pull back on it to shift the pitch up and could only do dive bombs. Also the "D-tuna" for me didnt work at all.It just knocked all my strings outta tune and really messed up the bridge maybe i got a bad one idk. The pickups are good for playing rock or blues and has a very mid-range tone the cleans sounded nice and bright. however im a metal musician and play stuff like metallica A7x and bullet for my valentine so they didnt really give me the deep low end i needed. Overall a great guitar id buy it if u got the cash and love eddie but not if u play any kind of metal.

Amazing axe!

By Salvador Dali

from Plano, TX

This is the best guitar I have owned, period! This amazing guitar provides superior playability. The bending and control of strings have never been easier. Generous dissemination of harmonics. Floating tremolo stays in tune even after brutal abuse. This is an extremely responsive guitar and has greatly enhanced my playing. On the cons side, the only thing I miss is the body contour shape that facilitates more ergonomic contact to the chest. I guess it's a matter of getting used it.

Staying Frosty

By george kiriakos

from Bohemia, NY

Just got home with my creamy EVH Wolfgang Special. Flat out the best guitar for the money you can buy. Plugged it in to my line 6, pulled up my Wolfgang setting and blasted off. This thing has sustain for days, pickups that are ridiculously well balanced and a neck words can't describe. Simply the best playing guitar I own (and I own, Pauls, Strats, PRS etc.) Became my number one go to axe in an instant. Setup was spot on straight out of the box. Could not be more pleased. This puppy makes music like the sound of a soul screaming!

Comment to JROCK on a previous post...

By Alan D'Entremont

from Akron, Ohio

I think you must have received a bad apple...I have a tobacco burst and have played about forty of these Wolfgang Specials in various stores around the country, and all I have to say is if you can not tap on these things...then you just can't tap. Not trying to sound insulting, but I have had no problem tapping on any of them. And my action is great on mine. The nut spec may be different from the previous Wolfgangs and Ernie Balls, but did you ever stop to think the Ed wanted it different? One of my best friends is a friend of Matt Bruck, and he said that this guitar is truly the culmination of everything Ed did and did not like about the previous ones, and that every last detail is exactly what he uses and likes...maybe he realized he liked higher action. Another friend of mine personally played Ed's 5150 Kramer back in the 80's during the Monsters of Rock tour, and the action was VERY high on that one. His immediate thought was, "How the heck does he play this thing?" Personally, I don't think there is a higher bang for buck guitar on the market...these things are amazing, and for much more than just Hard Rock, they can play many different syles.

best guitar i've owned to date

By Sean S

from Northern Michigan

I recently bought an Ibanez Jem but it didn't take me long to figure out the guitar just was not for me. So I searched for hours to find something that would suit me better, And I found these online and loved em straight away as I'm a bg EVH fan. Also being a huge Randy Rhoads fan I chose the cream white (Reminded me of his Les Paul). Anyways, I got the guitar 2 days ago. Basically it is like a Les Paul mixed with s strat. This guitar has a great thick neck - it feels wonderful. It resonates so good unplugged too. Plugging it in the tone is phenomenal, Hard to describe. Warm yet amazing amounts of distortion. It has not went out of tune once since I've had it. the frets are small but I'm used to playing on small frets from previous guitars I have owned. This is not your typical run of the mill wall hanger. I would have easily paid a lot more for this axe because all the qualities are there. NOTHING cheap about this guitar at all, It is a true professionals axe. Don't hesitate in buying one. This is the best deal I've ever seen for any guitar. Absolutely love it

Biggest Bang for the Buck!!!

By Chris

from Mission Viejo, Ca

Iۡm a working musician and never felt so inclined to voice my opinion about a particular product. I am extremely demanding about action, playability, craftsmanship and sound and I can honestly say the Fender EVH Wolfgang Special is a fantastic guitar. Do I like the way the guitar looks ۡ No! And believe me; standing at 6ۡ3ۡݕ_ I am even more aware of the guitars smallish stature and funky headstock. Nevertheless, I quickly got over it when I plugged it in and began a shred fest. By the way, I purchased the less expensive ۡ̏Specialۡݕ_ because all of the crucial items are exactly the same as the $3k plus model. Strange product marketing but a smoking deal for usۡ_ Try one out, play it and ignore its looks ۡ you will not find a better hard rocking axe anywhere near the priceۡ_

Wolfgang will be a classic

By Gordon

from Seattle,WA

I originally was looking to buy a Gibson Les Paul standard or an Fender American deluxe. But I wanted to try the EVH Wolfgang special first. I plugged into a Peavy classic 30 and was expecting a guitar that could only play rock. How wrong I was. This guitar is extremely versatile. The neck is so smooth, just the perfect size. The birdseyemaple finger board is gorgeous. The fit and finish is impeccable and you can really tell attention to detail by how neat and clean the guts to the guitar are. This guitar easily ranks with any LP or Strat. Needless to say, I walked out of the store with the Wolfie. I have owned it for a week and I can't put it down. This guitar will become an instant classic.
