Description
The E-Mu 0404 interface offers true cross-platform support for Windows XP (standard or 64-bit) and Mac OS X, as well as compatibility with most popular audio recording and sequencer applications. The low-noise, Class-A XTC preamplifiers provide 48V phantom power and ground lift switches enabling you to plug microphones, keyboards, and guitars straight into the 0404. An analog soft-limiting circuit lets you record a hotter signal without fear of clipping. You also get optical and coaxial S/PDIF (switchable to AES/EBU) and MIDI I/O to easily connect digital studio gear and MIDI instruments or modules. Low latency USB 2.0 drivers offer accurate timing and playback of your recorded audio and software instruments. You also get zero-latency hardware monitoring and the Production Tools Software Bundle which includes music software to create, record, edit, and master your audio compositions.

I've been using this interface for about 6 months now. I've been very happy with it. The preamps are very quiet and don't color my music at all. It was a little difficult at first because my computer runs Vista but after e-mu released the final driver for it, all was good. I don't really use any of the bundled software so I have no comment on that. My two favorite features are the mini 1/8" stereo output on the back so I can hear my music through my Bose computer speakers and then switch immediately to my Yamaha monitors for mixing. My other favorite feature is the hardware direct zero-latency direct monitor option. This feature allows you to take the great pre-amps on the unit with you and use them away from your computer. Great interface with great pre-amps that can work as a stand alone pre-amp. My only complaint: the gain staging is very innacurate and there are huge jumps in the signal at three locations. This doesn't really effect me though. It just makes it so I have to be careful and take a little more time setting it up.

This little usb interface gives you a lot of bang for your buck. It handled everything I threw at it except for the z-line inputs. These only provided static sounding garbage when I hooked up my mixer to them. I did not try any instruments in these inputs but I am sure I would have got more of the same. Great buy for the price and bundles software. Got my money back when I called in the warranty.
