The roundneck Hound Dog Dobro® guitar features a radiused fingerboard and a laminated maple body. The 10-1/2" resonator and open sound well are designed to enhance the Houndog Dobro's® natural tonal balance and projection. The plain maple ply body is adorned with a hand-rubbed vintage brown finish.
I purchased this resonator after taking back one that cost in the $800 range because of not having the right sound. If you dig the way Jerry Douglas, Hank III, or traditional Delta Blues sounds, this is your guitar. The quality, look, and sound are all more than I could have imangined in this price range. I did homework and shopped for months on trying to decide on which one to buy... This is it.
For the money, this is an incredible value. I played several resonator guitars, some costing over $2000, and this one stands up to all of them. It plays well with a slide and with fingers. Try this one before you buy any other.
Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase because of the value and Dobro name, though my biggest complaint would be that the nut width is nowhere near 1.75" as specified. It's more like 1-5/8". Also, the factory setup is too high for my liking. It appears to be setup for slide exclusively, whereas I plan to use it for both fingerstyle and slide work. I'll have the action adjusted sometime soon, no problem. I have mine strung with John Pearse nickel wound mediums, .013-.057, and it sounds great!
