I chose this to be my very first foot pedal. I wanted a multi-effects pedal that could do it all! If u have a good amp, and good guitar, then the distortion is great. I have a Spider III 15 and the distortion gets as good as the METAL channel! Of course it's not the best distortion, but it's great! And if you know how to record from it on your computer, then you will see that the distortion and effects are much better than out of the amp. It also sounds really cool through a stereo system or surround sound. I think that you will find the most useless feature on this pedal is the "DRUMS" it's not easy to play with a repeating drumline. And my personal favorite feature is the COMPRESSOR! It makes loud noises softer so you can hear the quiet noises. And for some reason, it gives more distortion when applied. If you like to hear the "pluck" when you pluck the strings, the compressor enables you to hear that. And then there is a tuner! It is a great tuner if you let the strings ring for about 2 seconds. But wait theres more! The noise gate doesn't effect the distotion! And last but not least, you get a pickup simulator. the SH gives you a warm, smooth tone. the HS gives you a cool, rough, poppy tone that will enable you to hear more of the "pluck" and if you like the "grinding" tone, then it gives you "grind" I can go on and on about this pedal, and it was under $100. But you have to hear it to believe it. It's very easy to use and there is one bad thing. You don't get the AC adaptor for it, and it costs an extra 10 or 15 bucks. But you dont really need it because it runs on 6 AA batteries! So I hope that this review helped you! I wish i could give you all the info on this, wonderful product!

First let me say that this unit is very clean, user friendly, although I have yet to use the User bank in which I can create my own effects. I do have one criticism: It would have been good to be able to look at the info on this pedal and be able to know whether it was a good fit for acoustic guitars or not. I have discovered in the short time that I have had it that although the effects seem to be very robust I had to turn the pre-amp on my 12-string almost down to off before I could utilize, without distortion, the chorus or whatever else I was trying to preview. My idea was to be able to create taylored effects for my use. The jury is still out as to whether I am going to keep this or not. I like the drum patterns which are very useful. As of now, I would only recommend this unit to those who play electric guitar and are looking for a resonably priced pedal with lots of nice bells and whistles.

This Is Awesome

By Michael

Comments about Digitech RP55 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

I've been an acoustical player for about 20 years now and decided (my boys told me to grow up) to get "amplified" Bought an Epiphone SG, Fender amp, AND headphones. After a few weeks, I decided to add a little spice ۡ playing Brian Adam's "Love a Woman" on the Ep through an amp just didn't cut it. Bought the RP55, taught myself a little AC/DC, AeroSmith, Eagles (my favorite band) and I was hooked! This little pedal is phenomenal!!! You have to hear it to believe it. The 40 factory presets cover anything and everything that I'd ever do, and then some. Lord only knows what I'm going to do with the other 40 but I'm sure my boys are mapping that one out. The good thing is that I can grow into this then upgrade when it's outlived it's life (in about 10 years). To quote another reviewer "It may take some time to get used to messing with it and finding the right stuff for you, but other than that, ITS GREAT!!! I recommend this for any guitarist of any age and experience." Thank you for taking the time to read this review and I hope it helps.

Awesome!

By Mark T.

Comments about Digitech RP55 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

Being fairly new to the electric side, I really had minimal expectations for this pedal. I was just looking for some kind of basic assortment of effects to play with. It only took one strum on the first effect to realize this was really cool. There are 40 effects, which can be used as a base for an additional 40 custom effects. Really decent drum effects to play along with. If you are even considering this, it's probably for you! Also, it does not come with a power cord. That is sold separately (I imagine to keep cost down). I am just using batteries right now, and it claims something like 18 hours of play on one set of batteries.

Great Pedal at a Great Price

By Gary Tompkins

from Maryland

Comments about Digitech RP55 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

I recently picked up this pedal as a cheap "beater" that I could take to a friends house and leave without worrying about it. I expected basic effects - distortion, flanger, phaser, etc... boy was I surprised! This things come loaded with a whole host of fully editable sounds including acoustic simulation. There are 40 presets in which you'll probably find the sound you're looking for. Some are just weird and obviously meant for Yoko and Bjork but most are good useful sounds. The down side is that you have to "scroll" through the effects (up or down) using the two foot pedals. So if you need to change effects in a song you may have to go from say effect 3 to 27 - not very practical. The upside is the 40 user preset available. Just use these to store the effects you need in sequence and walah! problem solved. This really is an amazing pedal for the price. Individual pedals would cost 10 times this much and still would not give you the editing power the Digitech does. The drummer is a nice feature if you just want to sit around and jam to a beat though it is not very realistic nor does it give you many options. But it is still easy to use and gives fun accompaniment. This is definitely worth every penny. The construction seems sturdy enough to last a long time. I am not giving it five stars - it earned them honestly.

Comments about Digitech RP55 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

wow is all I can say for this pedal. It really puts out if you're definitely on a budget, or just want something to jam with. I just bought this like a few days ago and it was amazing, and that was just a few seconds out of the box!! It really has studio quality effects, I can cover "The Devil Wears Prada" no sweat!! It may take some time to get used to messing with it and finding the right stuff for you, but other than that, ITS GREAT!!! I recommend this for any guitarist of any age and experience. Also, this would go great with the epiphone les paul jr. pack as a gift, great pedal for a great price. THANKS DIGITECH!!

Comments about Digitech RP55 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

you know a couple of weeks ago i would have said it sucked but then i found that you can create your own presets. you have thirty slots for your own presets and thirty created ones. there are also many good effects like distortion, reverb, delay, and more. so i would say buy it.

Please buy this pedal, and seriously read the packet it comes with!

By Tom

from Peabody, MA

Comments about Digitech RP55 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

Alright i was a little skeptical at first because people freak out when they see digital pedal. But i sucked it up and bought it. I instantly loved it... IM telling you right now though YOU NEED TO READ THE PACKET. This is what i do, Google your favorite guitar player or band and find out what amp they use, look it up, then go to your packet and find the model, you can store the model and it will sound almost exact to the sound you want. I wanted Tom DeLonge's Mesa Boogie setting, and Marshall setting, i found both of them on the pedal and now it sounds exactly like the albums.

Comments about Digitech RP55 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

this pedal was a surprise, i have tried different multi effect pedals in the past and they didnt have any distortion i liked, but this one has several different ones that have a good chunky heavy sound, and the effects are great and its so easy to work i would recommend it, still not gig worthy to me though

Just no soul

By Luke Kalawsky

from Phoenix, Arizona

Comments about Digitech RP55 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

I bought this pedal when I first started playing guitar, and for a beginning guitarist it really is a great pedal. Though as soon as you hear a decent pedal, you say to yourself, "Why did I buy this thing?" The sound quality is terrible, and in today's era of "tube amps are the best" (Which is the absolute truth!) you just can't trust a multi-effects processor from a company called Digitech, get it through your mind digital is bad, analogue is good. this has no soul. Right about now you're probably saying, " But it has so much stuff in it and it's cheap!" My answer to that... That's nice. If you want a cheap pedal that actually has some life to it look at some of the Boss pedals, they are more expensive, but they sound better. It is actually sort of a trade off, do you want more effects but worse sound, or better sound with less effects. You decide. If you really want a multi- effects processor the best one on the market is the Tonelab from Vox. It has a great sound and has a lot of effects too, expensive though. :)

Not That Awesome

By Sarah

from California

Comments about Digitech RP55 Guitar Multi-Effects Pedal:

Yeah, yeah. I know I shouldn't expect much from a lower-end product like this, but come on. I popped in some fresh alkaline batteries. I have to admit the wah was pretty cool. Unfortunately, that was the only effect I got to try out. The pedal stopped working about five minutes after I turned it on. I called Digitech's tech support. The guy was unfriendly and uninterested. Turns up this model is discontinued and Digitech isn't too keen on providing support for it. Worst thing is, I got this the same day I was set to leave for vacation, so I couldn't deal with the problem right away. I'll be turning to Guitar Center for help with this one. Don't expect much from Digitech.
