I got 2 of these as part of a package deal. I was told they'd be OK but not great. WRONG. I already have a Shure sm58 and the DRV100 competes quite well with the sm58. I did same song comparisons and I couldn't tell the difference. Even had a friend, who's played in a band for 40 years,listen and he was really surprised at the sound of the DRV100. I was gonna sell both but now I'll keep one as a back-up.
The mike has nice range and sound for me. I like it better then my shure mike. I use it for my main mike and like the sound. Well worth the price.
These microphones are great for the price. 5 stars taking price into account, still a 4 star mic on it's own. And Guitar Center likes to put these on sale, 3 for 1, which is just unbelievable. The DRV100 has pretty good sound quality. It has less high end sizzle and clarity than the high end stage mic (probably due to the 15khz upper limit), but it certainly isn't that big of a deal. On the bright side, it seems to be less sensitive to plosives and sibilance. They're more than good enough for backing vocals, a general DJ / announcer mic, and lead vocals if you're not running through a fancy PA. Remove the mesh grille and it can mic an acoustic guitar pretty well too. Feedback isn't bad either. Of course it can feedback, but it doesn't seem to be any worse than any other microphone. My favorite thing about these mics though is the durability. I know the SM57 is supposed to be a workhorse, but I'm not sure it could top these suckers. My band's lead singer has actually swung the mic by the cable, gotten it caught in a ceiling fan, it wrapped around until the fan stopped, and then swung back out smacking the concrete stage. He picked it up and sang with absolutley no difference in sound, and just a small dent to the mesh cover.
