I purchased these Dr.Pro 36'' monitor stands (37'' with feet and foam pad installed) because I needed better isolation for my near-field monitors. I bought a pair of black stands from the local Guitar Center and was very pleased with my purchase. Here's a detailed breakdown of these monitor stands for anyone interesting in buying them. Pros:: -Very Reasonably Priced: At this price these monitor stands are hard to beat. -Quality Construction: These stands are built out of metal and wood, all the hardware is metal. No cheapy plastic parts! (except the cable clips which has not been an issue) -Aesthetically Pleasing: The Dr.Pro's look very professional and will look great in any environment. I purchased the black stands and they look awesome with all of my other furniture and gear. -Easy To Install: It took me about 45 minutes to install these stands, including the time it took to fill them with sand. The instructions are very easy to follow. -Additional Features: The 2 metal posts are hollow so you have the option to fill them with sand or shot. I purchased a bag of play sand and a funnel for $5.00. Filling your stands not only adds stability, but also reduces vibrations from the stands. Once filled, they are still light-weight enough to move around with ease. The Dr.Pro's also include several different options for feet depending on whether they will be set on carpet (metal spikes) or a hard surface such as wood or tile (rubber feet). Cons:: -Size: Although the hight of the stands are ideal, the bottom base and top platform are a little on the small side. These stands are great for small-medium sized monitors. But placing large monitors on them might leave you feeling a little uneasy. A few more surface inches could have made these stands near perfect.. -Design Flaw: I noticed that once I filled the stands with sand, the rubber gasket does not sit flush with the top of the stand leaving a small gap in the seal. The problem with this is when you go to move/pick up your stands or tilt them, some sand will leak out of the top. This does not effect the stand's function but is a little annoying to be cleaning a trail of sand everywhere you move you monitors. (The gaskets on the bottom, however, seal up fine) -Dust and Finger Print Magnet: At least for the black stands, they attract dust and fingerprints like crazy. Although this should not be a big issue because you probably wont be touching your stands much once you have them set in place... Overall, the Dr.Pro 36'' monitor stands are a great solution for anyone who is looking to buy an affordable, yet durable pair of monitor stands for a small-to-medium sized pair of monitors. I highly recommend them!

During assembly there is a point where the instructions say "you can fill the tubes with sand for more support" The holes are so small that you can't get more than a grain or two down there without it clumping up. Other than that ... good stands.

Well-built, Stable, Inexpensive and huge audio improvement!

By Richard Leonard

from Encino

Comments about DR Pro DRPRO SMS1BK Wood Studio Monitor Stand (Pair):

I'm strictly an amateur musician and play around at recording/computer audio, etc. I have a Studio RTA Creation Station desk, and previously just placed my monitors on the top "bridge" of the desk. But I needed more room, so decided to get speaker stands. I considered various alternatives: 1. Engineering and building something from available materials, and plans from the web; 2. Metal stands (i.e., On-Stage Stands SMS-6000 Monitor Stands) 3. Wood stands. After doing some basic engineering, I determined that the parts that I'd have to buy and then build wouldn't save that much money...and my engineering could be off, i.e., I didn't want to experiment with no real savings. So alternative 1 was off the table. So I purchased On-Stage Stands SMS-6000 Monitor Stands. Pretty solid, but in a short time I determined that I wasn't satisfied with the stability of the narrow neck of the stand, and the base is actually quite large,so I dispensed with those . Finally, I looked at the DRPRO SMS1BK Wood Studio Monitor Stand. Seemed solid and well priced. Bought them. They were well packaged and they took less than five minutes to actually assemble. My only criticism is that the neoprene/foam pad on the top of the stands could be a bit thicker and the full size of the top (it's about 1/4" thick, and about 1.5" smaller on all dimensions than the actual top of the stand). But that is easily remedied if necessary. Recommendation on use...do as the instructions suggest and fill with sand during the construction process. Adds amazing stability, and further dampening . Go to a local home center and get SILICA SAND...very fine, goes right in and stays dry (just don't breathe its dust). I first tried using "play" sand, but it came out of the bag wet. Finally, I placed the speakers on the stands. WHAT A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN SOUND! While that wasn't my objective (i.e., improving the sound), having my monitors (KRK Rokit5)on these sand-filled rock-stable stands is the best change in my sound/production system I've ever made! And it freed up much needed space on my desk. Wish I had gotten these earlier!

excellent product

Comments about DR Pro DRPRO SMS1BK Wood Studio Monitor Stand (Pair):

I try to stay away from made in China products, but I could not find anything that looked as good as these and gave them a shot, and I have gone through a couple of items like this from Best Buy. I use the stands for small speakers in a living room and they do look good. They could easily hold bookshelf size speakers. The construction is excellent with the details well done. I recommend them without reservation. Bruce M.

Great Product for Price!

By JACOB HARTLE

Comments about DR Pro DRPRO SMS1BK Wood Studio Monitor Stand (Pair):

I was weary about getting this at first because of the cost. I thought there had to be something big sacrificed to compensate for the cheap price, but I was wrong. These are very very sturdy!! Not only that, they look very stylish, which really sets off my music room! The sound: I have M-Audio BX5a studio monitors, and WOW! Do they have such a different sound characteristic on these stands. The bass is much more defined as well as the overall frequency response. I recommend filling with sand. It does take awhile to fill each one, I would say about 4 cups of sand per each post hole ( there are two hollow polls in each stand). The only negative I would say is the rectangle pad that the monitors sit on. They should cover the whole platform of the stand, its recessed about and inch or so. So be weary of the description saying 9"x9" because the iso pad doesn't cover the full area.

Amazing value!! Very high quality build, materials and finish. I don't know how the manufacturer makes a profit. This seems more like $250-$300 worth.

Only gripe is that the vibration insulation rubber gaskets smell very strongly of rubber.

    Awesome Bang for Your Buck

Comments about DR Pro DRPRO SMS1BK Wood Studio Monitor Stand (Pair):

These stands are pretty awesome quality. They look great and are sturdy. They are a bit on the bulky side, but I'll take that considering that they're out of the way AND they hold up an expensive piece of gear.
I wish the hole through which you pour the sand in was bigger. Certainly felt that process could've been made easier with a wider opening for a standard funnel.
One thing I didn't think would pose a small problem for my particular situation was the base. It's great. It's wide for stability, but my desk has wide legs, too. Because my desk and the monitor stands have wide bases/legs, my near field monitors wound up farther away from me than I'd like. It's not a deal breaker for me, but I just never considered the stands' footprint size. Issue is really that I have to toe in my stands so that my speakers face me and the corner of the base creates that unwanted distance. If the top base (the one the speaker sits on) was adjustable, then I could get them closer, but I know that would be alter the sturdiness of the stands or something like that.
Still, I recommend these bad boys.
